Might Not be big game but still Hounds
Thought I would share some of our adventures with you... I know that this is probably like chasing mice to some of the stories I read on here but we have a good time doing it.... Enjoy

OUT FRIGGIN STANDING
tell us more about the dogs
and yeah the mods will probably delete this thread like they did the ones about deer dogging since they arbitrarily decided only trree game counts as big game, unless hopefully they have changed this policy. if they haven't then a running hound section needs to be added.
Hey Pops, those look like tree dogs to me! straight and narrow, looks like you guys had a blast and the dogs must of done good. guys can talk down on running yotes but if they havent tried it then they dont have any clue on how in shape their dogs have to be in, it can be a real exciting chase.
Good job dude... my trashy dogs can attest to how hard that really is... LOL! Thanks for sharing the pics. Take care.

Guys,
I was a die hard beagler since before I could barely walk. father owned beagles his entire life and so have I. We got to the point that beagling just wasn't getting it done any more for us so we picked up the white dog in the picture for free from a cousin who was leaving to serve in the military. We really didn't have any idea what we would do with it just took her in really. Then we got this crazy idea to start running yotes. There seems to be several around the area both in the north and in the southern MI. I would love to run cats here but doens't seem to be an over abundance of them like the coyotes. We started by getting them in a pen last summer. All the hounds are under 18 months old so we are very inexpierenced and have killed 5 yotes. I will tell you its the best race I have ever been on with hounds. I read stories on here and they seem real interesting also but so far in MI I find the yotes will really stretch out a go and the hounds better have their running gear together. I will also say Yotes are one of the smarter animals I have ever persued and that is including mature whitetails. They have a natrual knack for survival and a will to survive like no other. All in all we have learned lots and still are learning but having a blast doing it.
and Oh yeah and them are tree dogs in that picture....
Cool pics. My father used to just about make a livin on runnin yote hounds. They banned it on us up here. Good to know that it is still bein done. Barely remember it myself, except my first dog was one of his ol'broke down yote hounds. And he was about 60% Bloodhound. And by his stories, your dang right they got to be in shape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IN THE TREE OR DIE TRYIN!
So guys, how does hunting coyote with hounds work? Do they circle like a rabbit only bigger and you wait for the shot or do the dogs do the killing? Or both? Looks interesting!
up here we usually just wait to catch them at a crossing and shoot with the shotguns, sometimes the dogs catch them, sometimes they just plain leave the dogs in the dust, and you will get the odd one that will run up a road, through a herd of cattle, into a barn, etc. its fun tho, i havent got many bear to run in my area with my plotts, so i run coyotes, its loads of fun. oh and most of the time up here they circle between 2 or three swamps, or just stay in one big one.

never said they weren't tree dogs, just said in the past the mods have arbitrarily decided that nontreeing big game or game run by breeds other than scenthounds did not qualify for posting in a section titled big game hunting. and the OP's thread would likely be deleted based on prior occurance.
varmitt dog hunten
shoot ive seen redsided gray fox that big and big notthern red fox bigger/not all was ofcourse the fox`s comen in differen`t ages too ! Cyote that size is pretty young an can be run down/put under gun shots too=prettyt regurally. Acoondog wornt run a cyote out of the country on a long pattern were a runnendog fox houn will set that cyotes tail up in flight ! Now exceptions just exsist ! I`ve seen a full Waggnor bred b&t run one streight out 4 /4 mile licketdy-split and put him up on the seat of a corn harvester waggon /by golly !
if you enjoy the sport don`t let noone look down there nose at ya/on second thought goahead let em ragg-on/ it`s just given someone else a brake for a while....hahaha...
just jack
Tree hounds
Yep them straight bred tree hounds can smoke a yote! Can't think of any hunting, I have had more fun at.
Here
is a picture from a few years back of 2 of my hounds. I still have the walker dog he is 10 this year and still loves to run and kill coyotes. We mainly use him as a jump and kill dog. The b and t dog died at 3 years old. He ran hard and fast but his health got the best of him. We still have 2 other dogs that I own and my buddy ahve probably 30 between them. We got 50 yoted this year but i havent got any pics put on the computer from this year.
