Fighting Rule
WAS AT OAKS AND THE MOH AT THE SAT CLUB TOLD US U HAVE TO SEE A DOG FIGHT TO SCRATCH. AND FROM READING MY RULE BOOK IT DOES NOT SAY THAT IT SAYS IF U KNOW THE AGGRESSOR JUST SCRATCH HIM OR HER, BUT IF NOT KNOWN THE AGGRESSOR THAT IS SCRATCH ALL INVOLED. IF THE RULE BOOK SAYS ONE THING WHY WOULD THESE PEOPLE GO AROUND TELLING FOLKS SOMTHINGELSE. JUST DONT MAKE SENSE TO ME.... OR AM I READING IT WRONG??????????????
TO THEIR ADVANTAGE !!
I think theirs alot of this TO THEIR ADVANTAGE stuff going around
at some of these hunts. I live in the south and last I new theirs only 1 UKC Rule Book , not a north or south Version ! It Is What It Is ,the rule book, I think their are some people that change things in the woods when a problem occurs to their benefit.
I heard about the situation your talking about, Your Right , I guess We'll start carrying the weather proof version soon as it is Printed!!!

It is how the rule is interpreted, it says there must be interference with aggresive behavior. They are trying to tell people that interference isn't when a dog simply growls at another one. Most unscrupulous people are all to eager to scratch some one when they think they heard a dog growl. They have been reading that explanation at all the hunts around here for some time. It makes perfect sense, if a dog blows at another on a tree or growls when released, that is not a scratching offense. There must be interference.
DOGS WILL BE SCRATCHED:
(a) If a dog has a total of 400 minus points, regardless of how many plus
points the dog has.
(b) Fighting or attempting to fight during the authority of the Judge. Dog’s
name, UKC number and owner’s name will be reported to UKC on Nite Hunt
report form. No handler will be allowed to scratch his dog to avoid dog from
being scratched for fighting.
When the aggressive dog is known, scratch the aggressor
only. If not known, scratch dogs involved.
(c) Attempting to fight is defined as follows: when dog(s) are
interfering with other dog(s) during the authority of the Judge
by aggressive behavior.

The rules havent changed, just updated.Every hunt now the master of hounds reads the updated version on the dogs scratched for fighting rule. You cant say you wasnt aware of the change because if you were listening you were just told by the master of hounds. Not everyone agrees on all the rules but thats life. A month before the rule was changed my dog was scratched for face barking one time at a dog that was as least 4 foot away. Judge immediately scratched him. with todays rule that cant be done because he didnt interfear with the other dog. As always thats just the breaks.

but the rule also says in the authority of the judge if you hear dogs fighting and get to the tree and they are standing up right treeing and not even looking at each other that wasn't in the authority of the judge. even though you heard it i don't think you could scratch them and if you did i would defently question it.
You can sctracth and dont have to see them.... If its just 2 dogs.....
(b) Fighting or attempting to fight during the authority of the Judge.
two parts to this
1) Fighting... if you hear it, then it is happening.. if you get to a tree and you heard it and two dogs are cut up you know which two were doing it.. (SCRATCHED)
2)Attempting to fight is the part that is discribed with part C of that rule: Attempting to fight is defined as follows: when dog(s) are interfering with other dog(s) during the authority of the Judge by aggressive behavior. (SCRATCHED)
authority of the judge is also discribed in the rules as from the time the judge recieves the card till it is turned in..
face barking (even though I HATE a dog that does it) at 4' away is not interfering with another dog.. if he is trying to run him off the tree then yes it is..

thank you cripple creek !! i'm glad someone understands that it must be both aggressive behavior and interference, not just one. no wonder their are so many questions brought back to the master of hounds. I cant believe all the folks that just aren't getting it.

Its real easy guys. Its either a dog fight, a dog trying to start a fight, or it isnt.
Nit picking the rules either way (going blind or looking for a reason) is where the problem comes from.
I always ask myself if I would have a come to jesus meetin with the dogs involved for what I saw or heard. If I would, I will scratch them in a heart beat. Yours, mine, or theres.

DOES A JUDGE HAVE TO SEE IT???
DO YOU HAVE TO SEE A DOG FIGHT TO SRATCH DOGS INVOLVED?
CERTAINLY NOT.
YOU KNOW A DOG FIGHT WHEN YOU HERE ONE.
IF THERE IS NO? TO WITCH DOGS ARE INVOLVED THEY MUST BOTH BE SCRATCHED. COULD THE AGGRESSOR BE DETERMEND WITH OUT SEEING WHO STARTED THE FIGHT ? THAT CALL IS MORE RISKY! I WOULD HAVE TO SAY NO. IF THE AGRESSOR COULD NOT BE DETERMEND WITHOUT WITNESSING THE OFFENCE. BUT THE FACT THAT A FIGHT DID TAKE PLACE AND THE FACT THAT THERE IS A PROVISION FOR SCATCHING THOSE INVOLVED WHEN THE AGGRESSOR IS NOT KNOWN, OBLIGATES A JUDGE TO MAKE THAT CALL. SCRATCH THEM!!!
