Puppies running loose...

For those of you who let your puppies run loose, what age do you start letting them run around? We have a fenced in back yard that is decent size and I am wanting to start letting the pups run loose back there all the time. What age would you start them out there?

as soon as mine are big enough to get up on their feet & the weather is good mine are out during the day, i dont let them loose at night. 3 1/2 weeks.

I start letting mine run loose at the house or at my uncles farm at around 4 months old.

8 weeks to about 4 months Daytime only. All Day
4 months and up Night time only until they do not know when to come home which is around 6 months for most, some slower than others.Then I start hunting them .

It just seems like a pup that has been let run loose is alot further ahead than one that has been penned up all its life. I dont like to let one run loose with a yard dog that runs to the edge of the yard and bugger barks at night. They will get the pup to doing it, and seems like they get scared of anything outside the fence.

so nothing runs off with them, a stray dog, cyote, owl

Im same as rough creek!!!

whenever i'm planning on being outside i go and open my pups kennels up, then when i think its time to go in the house i holler them up from the woods and away they go for the time beeing, i live on kinda a busy road, i wish i could let them run loose all the time.

i

let my pups run loose at 3 months old 24-7 so they learn to run a track and tree on there owen and if they dont start on there owen i shoot them,,rabbits will learn them how to run a track,,i have feeders here on my farm,it helps them start earlyel,at 8 months old if they are not running and treeing there owen coon than i just shoot it that keeps just the good propcets to finish,,good luck and happy training ,david boggs

i would say let them out while you are there get it puppy
proof around the bottom of that 6 ft privacy fence.
and teach basic commands you will be 90% there and the
rest is breeding.

the first couple times

you let them run loose, you want to be out there to supervise. little pups can get themselves in all manner of unexpected trouble--wedged under a shed, hung up on a fence you thought was safe, etc. they will find any skunk that gets in there and eat old scraps of metal on the ground, electrical cords you left lying around..
After a couple of supervised outdoor play sessions, when you are confident none are going to injure themselves and they've found all the well-disguised escape routes and you have blocked them off, start leaving them unsupervised for short sessions and increase the time gradually. That way, you won't drive yourself crazy worrying about them, and when they find some new devilment to get into, you'll find out about it before they've dug a hole all the way to China in your garden..

I always let my pups run aloose from the day until they hit my land. But i have a house dog that will take them off in the woods but so far he has always brought them back. I also have feeders put out close to the house so when i hear start running or treeing i can put them up.
