Who's Best

When talking about getting pups started, who is the best in the business? I'm talking about a Good guy, will do you right, not charging you an outrageous amount of money, train a dog where they know what going to the woods mean.

every time i see a post like this the first thing that comes to my mind is how much money does this guy make a week ? if you cant pay a man the same amount of money a week as you make what would make you think you are getting the best in the business ? even at what you make a week the man still has gas feed wear and tear on a truck ect. . then try to get the best out a who knows what kind of mutt the man expects miracles out of . calling everyday wanting progress reports talking to your arm falls of . lol 400 $ a week should get you the best in the business . you might get one hunted for 400 $ a month but its not getting the 1 on 1 gold standard treatment .

JiM Sizemore and his partner are as good as I know of taking a puppy to a young dog you can hunt alone and tree coon with consistently.
The problem is they don't need any money, so the best a man can do is try to give them a pup.
The problem with that is you gotta get on a waiting list to give them 1.

LOL , good post,
Most people would bring ya something that's been in a 4x8 pin all its life and would take the first month or $1600.00 to get it to even walk and run right on the ground or ride on back of pickup truck with out slobbering and taking the nevus craps

Years ago the best I ever worked with was Jerry Schaffer and his wife in West Virginia. Jerry has since passed away but he was set up to get them started. I don't think I ever sent one there that was not ready to be singled out when I got it back. I have since used many with varying degrees of success. What I know for sure is that if you have to contact the "trainer" to see how your pup is doing there is probably not a lot getting done. If they want to keep your pup for more than one month without telling you what it is doing or not doing you probably are paying for the guy to feed your dog. And probably not the best dog food or worming. My opinion is the following:
1. Agree how long the dog will be there.
2. When you will get reports.
3. What the dog is going to be fed.
4. How much the dog is going to be worked with.
5. How many pups will be worked with at the same time.
If you can't get answers save your money and start your pup yourself.

Kevin Pool in southern Illinois is very good, but he won't hardly mess with the public. He has started and finished more than most , and you never hear of him. I know he has started 1 world champ, and 2 babystakes winners, and at least 50 others that are titled that I know of. If he would hunt one for you it would not be cheap, but it would be done right.

Thanks for the nice words. But I turn down several a month. I hunt my own stuff, not interested in dealing with the public.
