I had a really nice female in the 90's that we bred to a distant relative, a 2nd cousin, her half brother, and her son. She reproduced nice hounds out of all of them. The results didn't change as we bred tighter and tighter. However, if their is any physical problems in the hounds, even unseen for generations, it will bring those problems right back to the surface. Breeding tight like that is a real good way to find the hidden things whether they be good or bad. If you know exact details on all of the dogs in the pedigree it can help a person identify where the good and bad is coming from for future breeding knowledge.

1/2 Brother to 1/2 Sister crosses

The individuals you select for such a cross are the key. Are they alike? It is possible for them to be as unrelated as if you were making a complete outcross. Selection is so important. I wish that we as breeders could all come to the realization that there are no absolutes when it comes to breeding and inheritance. The fact that this type cross worked for one person may have little bearing on whether it will work for you. I Love Lucy is the product of a half brother and sister cross. She is a 2 year old Grand Night Ch. who finished so easily, is smart and started early. I desire to reproduce these types of dogs. Will she in turn reproduce this type? I intend to find out. Several of my dogs are from half brother sister crosses. I do use and recommend caution when asked about this. Be objective and do not be afraid to find out if you decide to do it. What do you hope to produce? And how close does it come to your IDEAL. Your own opinion should be the most important. Good Luck and when I can help let me know.
