mosquitos/???
holy mosquitos!had my pup out two nights ago.myself and my dog literally covered with mosquitos! we are surrounded by woods and water so we are used to mosquitos, however i've never seen them that bad!wondering what some of you guys do to keep them off your dog?we do give monthly prevenative for all parasites internal and external.
just would like to hear some thoughts on what other people do to keep them off their dog?
.
mosquitoes arent to bad down her in southern missouri this year but this ticks are really bad..even if you spray u will still get some on u
Bauer tree and shrub plus one full cattle tag on each dogs collar and Ivomec once a month !L and I have had no problem with fleas ,ticks Mosquitos none and also have cedar shavings in dogs houses Aswell!! Knock on wood I have never had an issue!! And I became a believer in the Bayer tree and shrub on a cast one night in two hours I pulled 27 ticks off myself amd I found zero on my dog !!!!
where do you get the cattle tags i can't find them
Most farm stores carry them. Look in the cattle section. Most farmerswill put one in each ear of a beef cow, at least around here they do.

Tractor supply coop"!! Amanda the Bayer tree and shrub you can get at wall mart in the plant section outside!! Actually I have something different now cause last time I went the Bayer they had had fertilizer in it but what I got actually had more of the. Ingredient you want and I forget what it is now but it is the main ingredient Are it Is the highlighted ingredient on the bottle !! I will look what I am using and the ingredient I am talking about tommorow and post it if someone else doesnt remember what I am referring to !
I use Spot-on or an equivalent to keep the ticks off. It also kills any mosquitos and flies that land on the dog.

Absorbine JR
I put absorbing JR on my chaps down around the ankles and dob a few times around the back of my neck, hat band and couple spots on my arms. Seems to keep everything away and off of me. Works good for about 2 hours. Works real good to keep those biting nats off too.
Yes it stinks pretty bad, but you get use to it.

keep em comin
just got in from the woods.i know there is probly 500 guys laughing at my post.we have had dogs of one sort or another for 30 years and have never used mosquito repellent.its just that there are so many different virus' around anymore that i want to be mindfull.tonight we scrubbed ourselves (dog and me) with an onion and believe it or not no mosquito!.buzzing but not landing and biting.i rubbed it all over my pup an when he was treed i shined on him good and didnt see any!
Add a half dozen pieces of garlic to a gallon milk jug of water, I either cut mine into or squeeze them with pliers. Soak the mixture into the dogs back and rub it in before you turn him loose. You can add water each day and the garlic smell will last a week or better, keeps the mosquitoes off the dog, but not good for ticks. Use Prevent Tick collars on dogs. Tom

i will try the garlic mix for sure!not sure if the onion thing worked or the skitos just werent as heavy, plus we werent out as long.the garlic would certainly last longer and i love the smell anyways. thanks!
ive used coal oil on my dogs many moons ago, kills ticks, fleas and never had a problem with skeeters getting on em but it do stink.
Tie a thermocell around your neck. It will keep them away. Dont know about while walking but just standing around they want come near it.
