My wife want to get my hound fixed. He is a 7 yr old B&T.

My question is will getting him fixed hinder is hunting or aggressiveness towards coons?

it actually makes a better dog I have heard from several people...know a friend that does it cause he has no desire to breed or raise pups...they worry less about marking territory and that kinda male stuff and focus more on hunting ....but I have heard its hard on older dogs to cut them but the vet would know way more on that then I would

Have a 5 yr. old neutered Walker and he is a real pleasure to hunt and be around. Turn him loose, he goes hunting, no watering weeds or butt sniffing. Hunt him in any company and I KNOW he didn't start it, cause he has NO aggresstion issues. I just got an English male pup and plan on neutering him too. So much less drama with a neutered dog. Will NOT hurt his hunting any, might improve it cause he isn't watering weeds and sniffing butt, he goes hunting!

I bought a young male that is neutered, it doesn`t effect his hunting ability at all, probally one of the nicest young dogs I've hunted in awhile. He has absolutely no interest in female dogs and all those other male dog issues which is a bonus.

I don't like choppin my dogs man hood yeah it makes them more chill and all that around females and other dogs but think of it like this what if someone took u to a strange place put u to sleep and u woke up with no manberries ud be a little upset u can't undo it ur fixed up perminatly...that's how I feel on it but I have done it to a dog before and he did hunt just as hard if not harder wasn't quite as aggersive as before but ore laid back and did hunt just as good if not better like everyone else has said....first part of this wasn't trying to be mean or a smart ellic just sharing how I feel....but there is nothing wrong with it

Anybody? I am thinking about trying this on an older male i just got. The only problem he seems to have is he doesnt like to share the tree. Has anyone had any luck with neutering them for this?

Anyone? I'm ready to get this male cut tomorrow but id hate do it if there's still a good chance he would be aggressive on the tree.

I had a black male that was neutered at about 2 years old. A year after getting neutered, he quit getting into it with other males. He hunted awesome and was good around the house. He got killed by another hound in a kennel and I had to put him down.

Now I've got a 3 year old bluetick male that will hunt fine by himself but in comp hunts he's sniffing and bothering females all the time. I might have some semen extracted and frozen and then have him neutered. He's not aggressive at all, but he's just not focused enough with other dogs. It's weird because he was pack hunted on bear and lion before I got him. Got a huge set of 'nads on him. I was hoping he'd do well in some nite hunts, but if not I'll either sell him or just use him on big game. He's pretty good around the house too.

I've got a 5 month old black male that seems like he's going to be the alpha. His papers are so clean that I won't neuter him if I can get him treeing some coons.

Neutering seems like the way to go if the dog is a cull candidate. Might make a better meat dog than what you had before.
