Bar-b-que contest

We have a BBQ contest coming up in town. I would like to enter it and see how I fare against others BBQ. Everybody that eats mine says I ought to open a restaurant. My problem is its sponsored by Budweiser beer. I preach God's word and am being convicted about this events and its sponsors as well as just being around the language and alcohol that I'm sure will be present. What are some thoughts about this?

Best advice I ever got when I question a preacher, Son don't do as I do, do as I say couse it's my job to tell you how to get to Heaven.

What they gonna be doing? Giving free beer away? I know when bud sponsored winter classic. Good many folks didn't like it at all but heck was no drinking at the hunt anyhow.

I do make a homemade sauce. If u pm me your number the next time I make a batch I would like to give you some to try. Yes it is known as crime bluff. And the second worst city for crime per capita in the country.as sad as that is its still home. My daughter is a senior in high school and my son is in the 6th grade. I would like for him to finish school here as my mom and my wife's parents live here also. I hate to drag the kids away from their grandparents but I'm pushing my daughter to go to college and get out of here. I am thinking about going to college at 37 years old to try and make a way out for my wife and I.

If you are feeling convicted, I say don't go. Just think how it could affect your witness to the loss. If someone that is lost sees the preacher at an event like this, they might think if the preacher can hangout in a place like this, then he is no different than I am and I don't need to go to church. There will be other barbecue events where you can show off your barbecue, if I were you, I would skip this one.

Beer and language are at sporting events suchs NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and etc...... Heck, we were at a Steakhouse today that served beer and liquer. Most big restaurants serve beer and liquer.

Anyone ever been to the kids Chuck E. Cheese? They serve beer.

Most grocery stores you shop from sell beer. Most gas stations you buy gas from you sell beer.

It is around is daily life more than people think. I guess for me, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Ask yourself this - Would you attend a college football game or pro football game, pro baseball game, and etc??? Would you have any problems running to anyone you minister at a sporting event??

If you would attend one of those and have no problem running into to anyone you minister to at a sporting event, then you should attend the BBQ contest.

There are many preachers who attend pro ball games, even though there is beer and language at the events.

As you know, most major sporting events have a Beer sponsor. There is drinking and cussing at these sporting events. That is a part of life.

As someone pointed out, a few years back Bud was one of the sponsors of the Winter Classic. Though beer was not available.

I attended a big sporting event with my middle son back in June out of town. They had a festival going on before the games.

They were allowing to have your pics taken with the trophies and/or cheerleaders. My son wanted to have his pic taken. They came up to me and said since Miller was sponsoring the event, no one under 21 could have their pics taken without someone over 21 in the picture as well.

That was fine, I was in the picture with my son so he could get his pic taken. We were not thinking of Miller when taking the pic, but a picture of a memory keeper of attending the sporting event.

I guess it comes down to the way you think of it - I attended the event as a sporting event of what it was -- didn't think about the language and the beer that was also there......It was a sporting event that my 11 years old and I spent the weekend at having a good time.

Now back in May, when I attended a sporting event out of town without any of my boys with me, I did sit back and have a cold one at Busch Stadium while watching the game.

Simple answer to me Pray on it and have faith do what God tells you. Somebody might be there that needs something you have. I think every where I go and things I do and the people I meet God has me there for a reason.
