im kinda new to coon hunting. I have a 13 month redbone whos doing really well but wanting another dog to hunt. im wanting a walker or b&t but don't know which one to get. what do yall suggest?

some advice........

find a hound that tree's coon!...dont be be color blind.finding a true coon dog are one a million these days sad to say!.Regardless of breed or color!.

My opinion is if your new to coon hunting, stick to the one you have now until you finish it out and then start on the next project. Let the the first one be a learning experience.

Have seen alot of guys new to coon hunting get gung ho and start out with too many dogs or working a couple young dogs at the same time get frustrated and burn out.

just keep the dog ya got now an hunt him an finish him. i was stupid got my male goin went right out an bought another pup to hunt with him an huge mistake i made its very hard to hunt two dogs young dogs an make the best out of them. just my experience i learned the hard way now i don't wanna get another pup til these dogs are getting old. good luck with whatever path ya take

Yeah, dont get a new pup to hunt you pup with, thats like putting a 2 year old in front of ice cream and saying "dont touch it"

Thanks for the replies. When you say finish him do you mean finish training or finish hunting the dog?

finish the Redbone.but?if u can can find a finished hound that u know is straight & accurate and a solid coon dog nite after nite?then go ahead and run them together occasionally or a few nites a week?.but if ur red dog is running & treeing steady on his own,then hunt him more by him self.just take out the broke dog with him a few times a week if u like?.its always fun to listen to a few dogs working together.but focus on the young dog more to give him the opportunity to make it as a coondog.takecare & good luck

Don't be color blind cause their are good dogs in every breed. If the Redbone is doing well keep hunting him, he may turn out to be something you'll never be able to replace.

How long should I hold off on getting another one? I just heard its a whole lot easier to hunt with 2 or more dogs, but I see what y'all mean by it would be a headache. Cause the dog can be one now.

if it was me i would just hunt my redbone until hes a good a coon dog as he can be.if your dog is really doing well i wouldnt take a chance on buying another dog right yet since your kinda new to coon hunting.
