climbing

how do you go about breaking a dog from climbing the tree. if there is any kind of angle at all to the tree she will be up it in no time. the other night she located and that was it other dogs sat and treed and she was 20 ft off the ground. she ended up falling out but caught her. any ideas on how to break this problem. thanks

I have had some success with a training collar. A few treatments when she is in the tree will help. Hang around the tree for a while to see if she climbs back into it and shock her if she does.

Keeping her toe nails trimmed backs work good also.

I think

this is just her style, but honestly I broke mine ( I think). he was 15-20 ft. in a tree I climbed up put 2 leads toghether and lowering him to my buddy, but I dropped him from about 8 ft., didnt hurt him really but he hasnt climbed again (so far)

....A climbing dog can get killed real easy...Its nothing to Joke about....I have a good friend that saved up for 2 years to buy a top dog...He found the dog and after buying him he couldnt wait to hunt him.SO on the way home he made a dump.The within 5 min he was treed .He sounded like a million dollars..He was about 30 feet up in the tree...After a min or so after getting to the tree he fell out...Within 30 seconds he was dead...I know of many other dogs killed also and others that got hurt real bad..It hurt this guy so much he quit coonhunting hunting that night .Ive tryed several times to get him to go, but he wont......The best way to break a dog like yours. Is with a sunburst lighted dog collar and shocking collar...You start off on low settings them higher if you have too... Just lay back off the tree and watch him. As soon as he starts climbing shock him....It will take time but it will work...

Wish I knew man. I have seen alot of hounds fall out of trees. But they were always lucky enough to have water under them to break thier fall.

My best hound died from falling out of the tree this spring.First one I ever saw him climb.It only takes one time to be the last time.If you like the dog I'd try anything.Sure miss mine.
