Dumb hounds
Iv got a young walker Hound he's just over a year old and I think he's probably one of if not the dumbest pups iv ever raised, he want cross a creek in the daylight without baying for 5 or 10 min or until I go Gently persuade him to get wet !
the other night I cam home and went to feed him, I had him in the big yard with my Cur Female just letting them have some social time together. I went got some feed and put it in his pan before going to open the gate so he could get in his kennel. well the dumb thing was on the back porch barking cause he didn't know how to get down off the porch that he climbed up on. I am seeing some of the dumbest Hounds these days iv seen in 35 + years of Raising dogs .............

So he ain't the brightest bulb on the tree....if he's not worth feeding you have to choose either neuter him and find him a home where they would enjoy a knuckleheaded hound or cull him with a .22 and move on. No sense in keeping him around if he is so low on potential for you.

You would be surprised at how many people keep a young dog in a pen without exposing it to the world.
I am not saying that is the case with your dog because I don't know. I will say I have seen more than a couple of guys leave a pup in a pen until they think it should start hunting and then they expect it to attack the night like a 3 year old hound.
Now, if you have been exposing your pup to every day challenges such as stairs, water, fences, woods, etc. all along then a reevaulation may be in order.

Sometimes the dumb ones pan out better.
Have you ever heard someone say "that one just might be dumb enough to make someting".
Seems like all the smart ones I raise, end up to smart and end up culled.
I like when there not smarter than me

it is a pup all go through dumd stages. let the thing grow up, if every one shot them at there age for being stupid there wouldnt be very many running around
i had one that wouldn't cross a creek one time. i tried and tried to get him to cross. one day a got so irritated that i purposely went to the widest and deepest part of the creek. i walked across and he would just stand there and whine. i walked back across, picked him up and threw him right in the middle of it. it was either sick or swim. from that day on he will beat me across.
dumb pup
thats what happens when you buy them holistens lol
quote:yup i had one just like that and did the same thing with mine, and he also learned to cross after that

Use SunSpot Lights, so bright its like the sun came out at night !!!
When it comes to creeks, logs and most fences I just keep walking. If he don't have the guts to get across he can stay back there by himself. They eventually come running up behind you.
