UKC All Breed Shows?

I have only ever shown coonclubs and I am want to know do you dress up like I see on tv for akc? Are you allowed to bate? How do the points work? Any advise?

Sandi, I showed at the Carolina Classic and saw people wearing a variety of outfits. Some dressed like the AKC handlers in suits and such, but the majority just wore nice slacks (or skirts) and "dressy" tops. I was told by someone that a judge told her once to try to wear colors that contrast with the dog...that made me be creative since I wear black an awful lot LOL! I tried to be as conservative as possible, probably took it to the extreme trying to make sure not too much skin was showing in certain areas LOL! Comfortable shoes are also a must.

Some judges will allow bait in the ring, others won't. They had this posted on signs outside each ring at the show. I held off on bait all the way around because I just knew I'd mess up and drop it at some point.

The show was a LONG day, and I wouldn't say I liked it MORE than bench shows, but it was fun to do something different. Good luck, hope you have fun!

thanks for the advice! I dont know if I will like it more or less... I just want to work my pup for as many titles as possible. There sure is a big difference in showing coon clubs vs. all breed shows! wow lol. The skin thing is going to be difficult here too as that is how many of the full figured clothes are cut now. did you use special tape or anything?

LOL, oh no...I happened to have one shirt for work that was a short sleeved turtleneck, so I wore that just in case. I'm 24, needless to say I don't own many "nice" tops that may not be a little revealing (not undecent though!) while leaning over to set a dog up on the ground. Between trying to coordinate colors and trying to keep it conservative I ended up wearing an outfit I wouldn't ever wear in the "real world" LOL...I think I'm going to have to splurge and buy a suit before the next one, though I'm not sure what color I'll have to find to work for both Walkers and Blueticks LOL! A friend of mine that went along to help me said she'd seen a few people be dismissed for the clothes they were wearing at that event last year, and we both agreed we would be absolutely mortified if that happened...so I didn't take any chances haha!

Hi Sandi,
If you post your question on the Dog Events board, you'll get tons of replies and advice, and there is a lady there that sends a really good booklet by email to newbies asking for information - it explains how the rings, and points, and show format all work.
In regards to clothes, there was a very funny thread on there about show clothes for women - one gal said that when she was trying on clothes in the store, she always made sure to bend forward (like she was stacking a dog) in front of a mirror to make sure she wasn't going to give the judge an eyeful!
There is an all breed show coming up near Ravenna on the May 22/23 weekend - that's a nice friendly club - and I'll be there on the Sunday with Greyhounds and Boston Terriers, and one of my Greyhounds in the weight pull. If you go, please look me up!
Laurie

I'll have to suggest these to the wife but when her goodies nearly fell out at an AKC show the judge put her and her dalmation up in her class LOL

On that, a quick fix is to wear a camisole or tank top and leave the outer shirt like a jacket thing. I do that a lot a short sleeved camp type shirt with the tank top under. Hope this helps!

Sandi,
I just sent you my PDF booklet on UKC Dog Show Information For Beginners. You should be able to find a lot of useful information in preparation for the upcoming Carnation City KC Multi-Breed dog shows in Ravenna.
I am a member of that club and also assistant to the obedience chairperson.
Since our May shows won't be hosting licensed obedience or rally, I'll be stewarding in the conformation rings. We will have a practice ring set up for obedience and rally. Any exhibitors wanting to run through the exercises can get some experience for CCKC's June and Sept shows where we will be hosting licensed Obed and Rally along with our Multi-Breed Conformation and Weight Pulls.
Looking forward to seeing you and your coonhounds.
I also do freelance photography and attended both Ashland and Medina's bench shows last March. Perhaps I met you there?
Feel free to contact me if you need more information!
