!!! Coon Feeders !!!

I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING TO PUT IN A COON FEEDER. SOME PEOPLE THAT I KNOW SAID THEY USE DOG FOOD. I HAVE USED MARSHMALLOWS TO CATCH COON IN A BOX TRAP AND THAT WORKS PRETTY WELL. I FIGURE CORN WOULD ALSO WORK PRETTY WELL. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT WOULD WORK ANY BETTER THAN THIS I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE. IF YOU HAVE ANY PICTURES OF SOME COON FEEDERS YOU HAVE MADE OR BOUGHT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. YOU CAN SEND THEM TO MY PHONE. THANKS WES 540 820 3967

I dont have any pictures but i use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. Get an 1 1/2 threaded pvc and put in the bottom of the bucket the coons can reach in and get the corn out but deer have a harder time getting it.

here's some I used years ago.

The best way I have found to feed corn is in a tire still on the rim. Lay it on its side and cut some holes in the side of the tire facing up about 2" in diameter. With this type of feeder coon and chipmunks will be all that can get the corn out. Most other types of feeders turkeys will clean you out in no time. I sometimes wet the corn in the summer but in the fall and winter I just feed it dry.

I use tires on the rimes also but use a hole saw on a drill to cut the holes. It's much easier and less dangerous than using a utility knife. I think the one I have is 2- 2.5 inches. Works real well. Use corn for bait. If it is a new feeder then I may wet it down but once they are on it I dry feed it.

DRUNK COONS

Will the corn start to ferment with the water in it? Does that make the coon drunk so they dont run very far? LOL

No they won't get drunk from it and they will run. I would tie mine to a small tree or cut off a sapling 3-4' from the ground and hang the tire on it that way they have to run and not climb. if you are going to use the sour corn remember to keep it fully submerged so it will sour and not get moldy.
