Which would you rather have?
A Countdown for Tree Points?
or
A better babbling rule? Something like another KC.
The babling rule can't be much better. Either you as the judge feel the dog is trailing a coon or it's not it's a complete judgement call.
But the countdown rule is something that's needed changed for a while. Reward the coon treeing dog not the dog that takes 2 or 3 or 4 minutes to cover.
lol, that would only affect the slow me too dog, the fast me too dogs that are tough to beat would be there seconds behind the coon tree'er....

Tree Count down hands down!! The babbling rule works if your judge will enforce it!! I'm sure it's different in other places, but where I hunt you will eat some - if you strike on a babble.

do you really think this count down rule is all that? you still got to win your cast with the most plus points. yeah your going to get beat some times by a second dog. maybe my idea of a me to dog is different than what you guys say is a me to dog.
somebodys got to get 1st strike & somebodys got to get 1st tree. if a dog is running the same track & trees a little later i dont call that a me to dog. thats a dog thats going to finish its track & not just run to a tree because another dog treed ahead of it. thats just coonhunting some bodys got to be 1st & somebodys got to be last to the tree. we still get an extra 50 points for 1st tree.
a me to dog in my book is 1 that will quit a track to cover another dogs track or tree or be treed & pull to another dogs tree. are we really worryed about a dog like this? yep its going to get lucky & win once in a while & with the right handler going to win quit a bit!! there are pro's & con's to both ways to score a tree. i'v seen times i used the full 5 minutes to tree my dog for 75 points behind another dog for warious reasons & so has everybody else. i'v seen times i wish there was a count down rule & so has everybody else. it all equals its self out in the long run. if we are hunting a dog that will run & tree its own coon & hold pressure & have the meat, does it really matter?
Rough, i don't even know why im going to waste my fingers on this reply BUT yes it does matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What part of it do people not get??????????????? It amazes me, if it takes youre dog more then a minute to tree with a dog then of course it should only recieve 25 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My gosh
Here's an example me too dog is a first or second strike dog. youre dog strikes for 25 then trees for 125 then me too dog strikes for 100 and it takes it 3 or 4 minutes to tree with youre dog and it gets 75 on youre tree, Plus them up and guess who is winning?????????????????????????????????????????????????????Ignorance at its best.
Or how about youre solid dog strikes for 50 then trees for 125 while the me too dog strikes for 75 and covers another dog in the cast for 75 then next cut youre dog strikes for 25 and again trees for 125 while the me too dog strikes for 100 and covers youre dog with 30 seconds left on the tree and recieves 75. then on the next cut youre dog again strikes for 25 while the me too dog strikes for 100 and again covers a different treed dog with 1 minute left on the tree and recieves 75 again.
Guess what you just lost the cast by having the dog that treed 3 coon while the me too dog won the cast by 25 points. 500+ to 475+.
And you want to sit there and tell me that's right???????????? Pleasespare me the ignorance
i would suggest you get a better strike dog & you wont have that worry !! if you are getting beat by this type dog to were it gets you this wound up you might need to look at what your hunting intead of changing the rules to help you out!!
ive never heard anyone complain about the me too dog taking 75 tree points on a slick or if it leaves.
with a countdown guys can pitch their dogs in as the clock winds down hopeing the dog will be there when the cast gets there and only take 25- if its not.
im not totaly against a countdown, but I know there are some good points from both sides of the arguement.
I also think it would make more folks breed and train for dogs that never tree together, and we already have too much of that imo.
I like a dog that can beat other dogs while competeing for the same coon. To me thats what its all about and is the only way to judge the best dog in a cast. IMO
I think the problem with the countdown rule is, it is PKC rules and that is where that needs to stay. This as you know is UKC and the different rules is what I think is one of the things that stands them apart.

Speak the truth it will set you free.
Not really if you have a stay-put treedog than you`ll end up scratching them for fighting and the dog that makes it part of it`s gameplan will get wrote up more than once and barred. Just have to write-up the fighting dogs, not let them withdraw.
