Dog Doors

Hi All,
I'm building a new kennel and need some ideas for good solid doggie doors that cannot be chewed. I would like the fronts of the houses to look good for a while. Any ideas, brands or websites would be much appreciated. Also pictures of yours with installatin procedure would really be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

I saw these doors on Jess Dickerson's kennel and I really like them.

They are aluminum, the dog opens them with his nose, look great, and will last for many years.

Tim

How ling did it take for the dogs to learn how to open them? And did you buy all that snow from Red Cedar???

Billy, You can take a pup and have them know how in less than a hour. And no we have enough snow of our own.

Hi Tim and thanks for the picture. Are the doors spring loaded. I just purchased my first house and am building a 10 X 20 Tuffshed. I'm going to locate the dog houses inside the shed and the runs on the outside. I just want a dog door that won't allow young dogs and pups to chew the door frame out around the shed.

I went to the local stae highway dept. and they gave me two old speed limit sighs. They are aluminum and I cut my doors out of them. they are the same dementions as the K-9 and then I went to the local hardware store and picked up an adjustable spring loaded hindge. I then rivitoed them on the doors and onto my kennel. I love them. The hindges cost me about 15 dollars and the signs were free (they were going to scrap them anyway) so I saved a lot of cash and only took me about an hour to make them. I even put the bend in them so that the dogs can open them with thier nose.

JUSTIN ---Go to a tin shop and have them to bend you some channels out of alum. the size you need to cap your opens of the doors --with a bout 1-1/2" flanges and screw them in place thats what I have had for years -- no chew --and than add you spring load doors like the thread above --works great and yes dog will be using them with in hours

i like the design, how long do the spring loaded hinges hold up? my wife has some labs that stay in the house, and we have a pet door on the back door so they can go in and out as they please. but the pet doors don't hold up for very long and i'm getting tired of replaceing them all the time. this looks like it would work great!!!

Roger I drilled the holes in mine as it got to warm in there. It can be minus 25 outside and it will be around 50 degrees in the dog house.
