Coonhuntin books

I'm trying to learn everything I can before I get a dog. I've joined my local club, tagging along on hunts, and listening to our club members. I have two babies 2yrs and 2 months. I'm looking for books and recommendations on books that I can read when I'm home with them while my wife is gone working 12hrs in the ER. If any of you have recommendations or old books you would reccomend and like to sell I would be interested. I can't afford Walk with Wick volume 1. Too darn expensive and isn't in stock anywhere reasonable. So far I've read some books by Bob Plott, Horace Kephart, and Steve Fielder. I'm currently reading Brave by Steve Matthes.

Thank you all for your help.

I have a copy of Wicks book if you want it. It’s a little worn but you are welcome to it. I live about 40 minutes northeast of Louisville ky.

Wicks book

I'd. Be happy to buy it if you're willing to part with it. As long as the words are visible I certainly do want it. I live in Georgetown Indiana. I could come pick it up if you aren't too far. I have volume 2. I was hoping to find volume 1 at a thrift shop or something before I read volume 2. My phone number is 502-777-1276. Please give me a call of you are willing. Thank you

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I do listen to podcasts but never thought to do searches on here about techniques for training and such. Unfortunately I'm so new that I'm still learning the lingo and what everything means. I have dog training experience but not hunting dogs, it's a whole new exciting world. I'm trying to learn the gear, the breeds, the training, all of it. I've came a long way over the last 8 months. I'm hoping to be competent enough to get a pup trainer next spring.

Anything I can do to help you get started let me. Wild Willy has a good book and DVD to. It’s on sale this month with code - TREE MANNERS. He has done a couple of interview on the coon hunting university podcast that I host. The walk with wicks are awesome, lot of good techniques and history there but pretty hard to find as you may know.

Hey Tyler pretty wild for me to hear from you. I've listened to every one of the CHU podcast and listened to Wild Willy on there. As a future houndsman and coonhunter I appreciate all of the knowledge and history you share on your podcasts. I was blessed with a copy of Walk with Wick volume 1 for free from a coonhunter close by that saw my post. Went on a hunt at my local club last Friday and one of the members gave me a dog box for free. This community and unity has been awesome. I've been studying for the last 9 months and am getting the itch to get me my first dog. I want to get one that I can learn with though, not a pup. I'm going to build my kennel over these next two weeks. This is just an awesome group. I feel home. Thanks again for your advice and everyone that has posted on here.

Man first off, I’m just as normal of a guy as you’ll find haha.

This type of stuff just makes me so happy to hear. It is a outstanding community. That is awesome that you were able to get a copy of walk with wick and a volume 1 at that! I look forward to you hearing about you and your future hound soon buddy. You’re definitely starting out the right way and taking all the advice you were ever given, that’s much better than I can say about myself when I started out and I’d bet a bunch of folks in this group would say the same. I’m serious anything you need or anyway I can help you just let me know buddy. Thank you for all the support and listening.

Heck Tyler I appreciate that! I'll be sure to share my experience and hope to pass it along to future coonhunters when they begin this track. I'll be listening to the podcast. Thanks again!
