Low scores and dead casts
Looks like the coons were tuff in most of the zones last nite
Hunts
When the raccoon aren't moving it doesn't matter where you are and Elvis as much as you've won and hunted you can probably verify that
Hard to have a big score when you spend all night walking from tree to tree. In some places each dog only has time to make 1 or 2 trees. Comp coon hunting isn't like it used to be back in the old days when Marv was hunting.
Tar had it right when he said most of those dogs need to start packin again 😉

Handlers today are hunting ambush style dogs that fly through the woods looking for an easy coon. They can't work a track and tree a hard coon. When the easy coons are not out, you see a lot of dead casts.
It is amazing how many times you hear, "my dog treed a coon but he was out of hearing". Or, "my dog treed one on time out". Or, "we found my dog treed with a coon after the hunt". Or, "my dog treed the only coon but we didn't get to score it".
with the heat coons were layed up till late, the later you hunted the better the tracks got

I personally saw pretty good dog work this weekend. I saw coons trailed up down dry ditches, saw coons treed that were laid up, and saw quick fast corn field races treed.

Get a Good One
It’s so dry here in southern Missouri that it’s tough going for any caliber dog. Not mention the full moon and the heat. If it’s as dry in rest of country it would be interesting to know how many dog won by treeing layups.
I know it’s been ask 1000 times but why is world hunt held when it’s hot, dry and leaves are still on. Seems like there would be better options.

Nathan Phenix is spot on.. Dry in most of the zones and coming full moon.. you can tree coons, but not nearly as many as dark of the moon.
Lambert well said. No leash lock hopefully correct poor breeding practice.
