Nose

Who still breeds cold nose red dog's ? 8 10 hour old track kind of nose ? I know most comp hunters don't care for this for fear of a hot nose dog stealing a track and beating them to the tree . But I have been to a many of hunts and never seen a coon . Today I was putting out some bait to start a female on and watched a coon cross the road at 11:30 . I thought dang nothing I got can run that track tonite especially since it don't get dark till 9 pm . And I don't know of anyone that breeds them kinda noses in a red dog . Now I know where nose is but I don't want to go that route I'm not a fan of cross breeding even though I could gain everything I need including mouth in great volumes . I am not in any position to buy any hounds at this time the last 2 year's have been rough on me . Buy if I get in a situation where I can make something happen I'd definitely appreciate any direction from y'all if such a dog still exists .

T-Top... Moose, Haze, Wendy ....is one direction that you could go.

Lots of die hard cat and bear dogs out west would definitely fit the bill.

Didn't Montana Red Mt Ranger come from those Cat dogs out in Montana?

Nose

Thanks y'all !

Richard I never could figure out what kind of stock Ranger was off of . But I do know them bear dog's make fine coon hounds .

I have noticed several big winners off pr dog's but could never get answers off what kind of hunting stock they came from . Down here they use the same dog's for hogs and bear . Real dual purpose hounds . A lot of plott treeing walker trigg walker and BMC dog's .

65 % of red dog's in Florida are off Deacon does it . They look good and tree good but lack nose and drive at least the few I've seen hunted rest are just pet's for breeding purposes for the almighty dollar . Tim is out of hunting for now Earl is down to 1 dog off John Henry and not sure what Jeff has goin on over there right now last 8 heard some Pigeon river blood .

I've talked with some older guy's that said they haven't seen a nice red dog down this way in 15 yrs or more . Sucks for me but I'm still plugging along ..

Jeff's dogs had a bit of Bear hound in them from Donnie Stockton up in NC. Tim's old dog had some Bear hound in him from Connie Gibson up in NC. Just don't give up. It takes a lot of time and effort. Good dogs rarely just fall in your lap. It took me 20 years, a lot of nights in the woods and a lot of miles on the road before I got Long Tall Sally. She was my first good dog.

I might have just what you need .they are colder nosed then most wide open as soon as they smell there target game.and the focus and drive it takes.to run something down.

Richard I have about give up several time's even tried to take a break from it for a while but I'm still plugging along except for these past few weeks it's been in the 90s at night and just too hot to hunt much . I've got a dog or 2 to finish that should be pretty nice . And I'm still hunting Bandit and he's still one of the hardest going red dog's I've seen besides my lady dog that passed away .

Guy I sure wouldn't mind trying what you got up there . If I get my fund's right . Next time you come to Florida look me up and bring your gear and I'll take ya hunting .

I will be 55 this year.i can draw my pentionfrom from laborers union come February . So next year I will be coming back to some serious coon hunting and back to the nite hunts. With the same dogs I've allways had.
