I had a buddy a few years back who hunted several nights with Ole Ladybird. This man was good friends with Mr. Bates but has now passed on, but he always told me David "Put as much of Ole ladybird into your hounds as you can get." Cause pound for pound she is the toughest thing Mr. Ed Bates has on his place.

I took him at his word and to this day I have always tried to load my pedigree with Ole Ladybird.

Ladybird was raised by Mr Ovie Bussells of Lawshee Oh and sold to Mr Eddie Bowman. Eddie Bowman sold her to Mr Ed Bates after a long and hard battle. Ladybird was bred to Boyd's Little Joe and Brewers Red River Spot, which produced Bates Screamon Deamon. Ladybird died and is buried in Franklin Oh.

Would you know if Mr. Eddie Bowman was a brother to the black and Tan man Mr. Owen Bowman??

Mr. Owen Bowman sure told a buddy of mine a funny story about Ole Ladybird one time Years and years ago when my buddy went to his house to buy a Black & Tan off him.

Rocket man I will see Mr Bowmans son in law next Thursday an I will ask him if Mr Bowman had a brother named Owen. Eddie Bates did not know Owen .

Thank You EnglishBuddy for the update. Ole Eddie Bates sure had some good ones in his time. If you see Ed, please feel free to tell him, it was (his and my) friend Mr. Tom Dew that told me years ago when I was a young man to keep loading as much of Ole Ladybird as I could get in my dogs and I would always have a coondog. Tom was one of only two people in my area that comp hunted when I was young. And Tom is the man that helped my Dad get his first registered dog back in 1968 or 1969 I believe.

Tom went over and hunted frequently with Ed and loved the Ladybird female. Good Hunting to you Englishbuddy!
