toecutter and others, pup questions???
hunted sky tonight (bout 11 months old) and dropped her in places where to most likely hit a coon track would have to go roughly a mile away and go through some deer infested areas and plenty of yotes and other trash. havent had trash problem with her (im sure thats coming yet). most sky's single hunting has been closer to where should be action and when hunt her with either or both old dogs she's so competitive blows out like rocket up her butt no matter where hunted or whats around for trash. she has luckilly taken to coon easy, tracks and trees great. im not stupid and been around ton of trashy dogs and know that could change at anytime. been lucky so far.
have problem with her not cleaning out before hunting and ive been letting her run loose and tieing up around the place before loading up. when solo hunting she usually monkeys around a couple minutes taking care of business then goes out hunting but wasting more time than i like. with another dog she goes right away but several times have went into first tree where smell bout knocks you over. LOL. she is kenneled in toecutter design above ground kennel most the time. gonna try changing dog food but think its more being excited when knows going hunting doesnt empty out.
other problem she showed tonight on couple drops when going hunting stopped and messed around growling like a guard dog while still in hearing. never got further than 300-400yds on them drops. she is nicest dog you ever been around never growled at anything but sounded serious tonight. very well could of been coyotes or anything else out there but have had bunch of runs with yotes howling in every direction and never done this growling before. in the past had 3 dogs stop on garmin one night and when finally got to them was deer tangled in bunch of wire stuck in beaver dam in creek. those dogs never barked just sat there growling. reminded me of way dumb pup sounded tonight but once got up there nothing seen or heard.
she hunted, tracked, treed perfect on only one run tonight. rest of the night the wierd issues above but im sure will get worked through soon. any advice or opinions on issues, im all ears. thanks, matt.
sky and single.

My pup is 6 months old and she does the same thing. I think it has something with them getting excited. I put her in a caged coon yesterday evening and she was trying her best to get at it. Had her nose pressed to the cage barking like crazy. Then all of a sudden when backed up and done her business and then went right back after the coon.
wow, really Matt.. this is what my advice and knowledge of coondogs has dropped to.
I don't really know how to make a dog crap when you want it to.. maybe change the time of day and amount of food you give her.
maybe its the kennel pen she is in ?
but I'm sure someone on this board of pro trainers will have the sure fire cure..
according to them they can break them of tree fighting ,, chewing and every other bad habit I have never seen one broke of.
maybe they can even breed them to have a pre determined time they drop a turd.
if a turkey is born knowing a bad snake from a good snake than I see no reason a dog can't be born knowing when to $hit.

And people still say there's no such thing as a dumb question. Have you tried a cork? Just be sure to have a monkey handy to remove it when the hunt is over.
randy what I was getting at is maybe above ground kennel making dogs guts take awhile to get moving. I demand a dog to go hunting hard not mess around. just trying to get my pup to level where she needs to be.
shadinc u wanna see stupid re-read most of what u post.

mnb&t don't be ugly. I was just joking. If I had an eleven month old treeing like that I wouldn't be too worried about her.
be careful
years ago,a man in Nebr always had a wooden match in his mouth like a tooth pick. When we stopped to hunt, out came the match and riteup the dogs rectum. They squatted rite away. only advis e I can give is to leave the match lay and not put it back in your mouth!!!!!

My dogs eat once a day and that is in the evenings. If I hunt they do not eat until after the hunt. From a 6 year old to an 18month old pup everyone of them poop as sson as I get the out of the box and ready to cut them. I think it is a nervous thing. I walk mine around before I load them up to go hunting and usually works.

Ya could try a feed with a sweet potatoes base. I have had better luck potato based foods on dogs with sensitive stomachs.
No idea what the growling is about haven't ever had that one happen.
Congrats on the pup running and treeing wish mine would do that.
