Stationary Rule
I've never really read into learning this rule....Can someone please tell me what it really means and how many of you have ever taken chances of not treeing your dog covering another dog? Either knowing he's near that tree and as soon as you walk in, he's going to cover because he sees lights coming, or just by the way your hound is covering, you got a feeling that maybe ol Mr. Ringtail may have already flew the coop to a different tree
example-
DOG A strikes a track that's too hard for her to handle in a area of overgrown grapes and vines galore, your dog goes over and strikes in and works it. All of the sudden DOG C starts a short track, and pulls up treed. You can distinctively tell by the way your dog is barking that he is still tracking, but not far from DOG C treed. Maybe a locate here or there every little bit, but he never really gets into that sweet confident rhythm of a chop that you'd like. With DOG C's showing of work the previous two spots, theres a 50% chance that he's even got it right. Stationary rule hasn't been put on your DOG yet but someone could argue for it. He's just grubbing and checking
How many of you would take that chance and let DOG C's tree close and not tree yours with the possibility of your DOG going to be in there eventually treed. Whether he figures out the right tree, or really does cover DOG C on his tree. his treeing just wasn't enough to your likings for you to actually call him treed
What happened to me is this....
Dog C's tree closed and I never treed mine. As we were walking in, mine ended up treeing with him on the same tree. DOG C left the tree and came into us and mine stayed........... i was about 75% sure that it was empty and 100% pissed that he covered a track and tree like that, but hey it happens. So here we have my dog treeing on this tree and knowing him by the back of my hand, he would stay there until the cows came home. Judge puts the stationary tree on my dog, and I tree him. After 5mins of tree time closes, it ends up being empty as suspected since the beginning. But idk, i could smell coon and the grapes were thick. So he was somewhere in that mess
If DOG C stayed on this empty tree, my strike points would have been deleted?? And no penalty for tree?
Would anyone handling my dog handle it differently?

If it were my dog id have done the same the only time i tree my dog is if he picks the tree if he doesnt ill take last and if hes boggin around i darn sure wont pitch him youll pay every time.
First he can not put the stationary rule on your dog with another dog there that has been declared treed. Also had dog C stayed on the slick and yours covered you would have received next available position on the tree. Your strike and tree would have been minused. Even without you treeing your dog.

ahhhh gotcha
Stationary was put on mine after Dog C left and greeted us, and he never went back to the tree
Soo if a judge puts a stationary on your dog.... you pretty much have to bite the bullet and call your dog treed or else you'll be scratched for failing to call a obvious dog treed?

Gonna disagree here if the judge walks in on atree where a dog is obviously treeing not being declared treed that dog is scratched. you do not award next available on a tree the dog has to be called. if it is called after the five it is considered split until determined otherwise then minused if it is on closed tree the only time next available is awarded is given and minused is in the case of a handler not striking dog. correct me if im wrong allen/ukc.
well I believe if you walk into a tree and there is a dog that has been struck but not treed there and the tree is slick or off game you get next available tree points and min. both ways. as long as there is a dog there that has been called treed.

hmmmm I guess I should've treed him before the 5mins ran out on Dog C then.
Id rather be minused 3rd strike, 2nd tree, rather than 3rd strike, 1st tree. but how would I know DOG C was gunna leave
I ended that night with 0 lol

rthompson,
A dog trees and is declared treed. Another dog starts treeing on the same tree but is not declared treed. The dog not declared treed is NOT scratched. He will get minus strike points if coon is seen, circle strike points if the tree is circled, and will be awarded the next available tree points and minused strike and tree IF the tree is minused for slick or off game only.

You are 100% right i mis spoke. rule 4k and 4l butrule 6o aplies to the scratch. if dog a left the tree and is minused like said then tree is open again then the stationary is applied if the dog is not declared treed when judge arives and id obviously treed then it is scratched. if it is treed it is scored. this is a good situation of double check the rules.lol call your dog for what its doin and if you have to buck up and take your minus.

IMO-The stationary rule is the most abused rule, (other than overlooking the silent trailer) on the scorecard. This rule is implemented 90% of the time in a different scenario than the rule was actually written for.
Most often this rule is applied to intentionally put a dog/handler in a precarious position by forcing a dog to be declared treed that is actually only picking on a tree that it is not 100% committed to.
I believe this rule should be done away with COMPLETELY and let the handler go back to deciding if/when they want to declare their dog treed.
And for those that like that rule, why not take it one step further and remove the handler completely from calling their dog treed. Let the Judge decide which dog hit the tree first, or which dog committed to the tree first, and in the case where the judge is not sure, let him split the points evenly among those that were in question.
Then we can have even more fights than we do now for the judge abusing his power, but at least it would only be the judge that was abusing and not everybody on the cast.

yes joey it was UKC.
yeah I should've just treed him before the 5min ran. Coulda saved 5 min of my dogs time, then 10 min of shine time....enough to score another one. I was pretty certain he was going to be treed by time we got in there. and like you said, I was going to get that minus the same points anyways. except for DOG C leaving. lol
I went from 175+ down to Zero,....where if I did tree him, I would've gone down to 50*+ which would've granded my male out and qualified him. OUCH!
oh well, ya live and learn
