Win more hunts?

What kind of dog wins more hunts? A dog that flies through the country with it's head in the air,looking for a coon to tree quick,or a track dog that has to trail a track to the tree to get treed?

depends on conditions at the time of the hunt. faster types normally win more, but on tough nights, one coon can be the max, and the track dog may be the best option for those nights. There is no cure all, but I'll take the fast hunting type for myself.

Two secrets to winning hunts are. Treeing a coon no matter if it is here or a mile in. Second and maybe more important is protecting the Plus points you earn. The dogs that are hard to beat are those that don't beat themselves.

Generally that is the difference in a young dog and a seasoned dog. Many young dogs shine and can tree a bunch of coon but those same dogs give the points back by the end of the night. Many me too dogs win who don't give the points back also. That works in open competition trying to earn a night champion degree. Get to the upper level and winning with that hound starts to fade away.

In bad conditions i feel like the track dog is going to tree a lot of dens before finding a coon on the outside,where a head in the air looking for a tree dog,is going to tree the coon on the outside quicker.

Give me one that has a coon a higher percentage than others do. It will win more hunts. I dont care if it trails or flies through the woods like a wild Indian. Also I dont want it acting stupid most of the time. Stay to yourself. Stay outta trouble.

Independence

No matter the style of the dog if the dog is independent and can tree coons it will always rack up + points by itself! I just like to walking to trees with coons in in no matter if it is 100 yards away or 800 yards away! Just find the style that suits you best!

Like Bruce said, Regardless of the style of dog a high percentage of casts are won by the dog and handler that do the fewest things wrong.

1st and 1st type dog, know your dog have it ready do not take MIN. points, call your dog for what it does , you will come out on top 99..9 % of the time.

I like a dog that can get split with a coon but in between time I want him part of everybody else's to. Those 75 and 100s add up too !!!!

Ok,i can see where consistency, independence, accuracy,and knowing your dog would play the biggest role in winning hunts.
