pup loves the truck but gets sick
My 5 month old pup loves to get in the truck but if the trip is more than 15 or 20 minutes, he gets sick and throws up. As soon as he throws up what's in his stomach he is good to go. Will he grow out of this or get better at longer trips as he gets older?
.
Yes, that situation will improve. Some take longer that others but most get over it in a short period of time.
Some won't vomit but will drool real bad also.
I appreciate the reply, I usually can tell when he is going to vomit because that's when the drool really starts. Once he has vomited the drool is back to a minimum
I wouldn't feed the pup for at least five hours before taking it for a ride.
just keep ride it.one of mine loves to eat grass.
I was told once that dogs eating grass actually is what makes them sick and throw up... not sure but after I heard that and paying attention is was true most of the time for whatever type of dog I have been around.

I think I'm gonna try not feeding him if I know we are going out. He has never thrown up grass but then again he doesn't really eat it. He threw up a rock once and that was a scare in itself. Luckily that was the only one in his system
put one of them grounding straps on the back of pickup like the electric co. uses on their trucks. stops stactic buildup and dogs should be ok ,its like a rubber strip with wires embeded in it,drags on ground,
friend on mine did it to his truck and never had to give his dog none of the seasick pills again.

Ginger snaps help motion sickness.

Home to a bunch of short dogs who occasionally allow me the honor of holding the other end of their leads!
When i was a kid we had a mutt that loved to go with us everywhere. From the first ride til the day that dog died I NEVER saw a dog get so sick riding in a car.
It got to the point my parents pup a baby bathtub between the front seats and let him stand in it. He would drool an inch deep in that thing on a 2 hour drive. We would also give him dramamine (sp)....but id didn't help much.

I think dogs
throw up in a box because of nerves. They are enclosed most times looking out the back of a truck. I find also it depends on how smooth your box rides in your truck. When I have watched my Owens box at times it shakes a little when I am on gravel. that could cause the Dogs to get sick. Dogs are like people, some can fly in planes with no issues some can't. usually because of nerves. I know people that get car sick if they ride in the back seat. again because they got sick once the next time they get sick more easily. I have had a few dogs like this over the years and its annoying. What I have found is a lot of pre ride box time.. feeding in the box.. treats in the box ..very short rides, a mile or so at first. I know all this sounds maybe like a time consuming process, and at times it can be a pain but the quicker you can get your dog to not be nervous about the box the quicker it quits throwing up.
