What would you do?

I have a young pup (8 months old) that was being aggressive toward my yard dog. The dogs are kept outside in a kennel. Both have their own kennel. I feed the dogs and the young pup ate all of his food. The yard dog next to him weighs about 7 pounds. The young pup was growling and barking at the yard dog; he was trying to get his food. As I looked out the window, I saw the young pup reaching his paw into the yard dog’s pen and trying to rake his pan over toward him. I went outside and by the time I arrived at the kennels, the yard dog was back in his house and the young pup had dug a hole and was eating the yard dog’s food. I picked up a switch and went to hit the young pup, when he growled at me. I continued to whip the young pup and he continued to growl and bark at me. He then ran behind the dog house and I let him be.
Do you think he will outgrow this mean streak? What would you do with this pup if anything?

Cut your losses quick, or you might regret it later.

Im agreeing with maniac i would fry him everytime it it growled at me, he is still young yet.

Right now he thinks he is the boss, either give up on him or teach him that YOU ARE THE BOSS!!!!! Personally I would teach him who's the boss and give him a chance.

I have a pup did the same thing

She would growl at her brother to get his food. So everytime she did that I took her food. I also whipped her and would exercise her longer to make her more tired. I don't know I am only 15 but it worked for me.

being that young thats his personality comin out right there. Doesnt sound like he has a good temperment especially growling at you. U can try correcting it but i wouldnt waste too much time on it if he continues at all

Most any dog will fight over food when they r hungry... now if dog is just down rite mean when ther is no food involved mite have a problem but if its just over feed I say feed em separate. People act like they never had a dog fight over food I just don't believe that I hunt kemmer curs & they will fight over feed. But have never had any problems @ tree with them or strange dogs. But most hounds can't keep up with a good cur so they usualy get to the tree about same time as me then the hound owns say u got a meat dog & u can't judge a cur with a hound. Not fair..

Roll them

I would roll them to establish your position as pack leader. Roll the dog on its back and hold them down for several seconds until they relax or submit. If the dog doesn't relax then keep holding them on their back.

Do that periodically and you probably won't see that behavior towards you again. Had one do the same thing and it turned out to be a nice hound with one of the best dispositions.

I like a little aggression, to me it means they have grit. I don't like alligators at trees,!!, but with consistency I think this behavior will stop quickly.
