What does being on the "Wait List" actually mean??
With the 2013 Winter Classic only a week and a half away I thought it’d be good look at what it means to be put on the wait list.
First off, the name wait list doesn’t really annotate what it truly is. Most people (me included for a long time) thought it was a “wait to see if you get to hunt” list. It’s not really that. It’s more of a “wait to see what cast number you get” list.
The wait list is designed to fill in the no-shows from the non-wait listed dogs. If 20 dogs do not show up to confirm that were not on the wait list, the first 20 wait listed dogs will get put in their spots (providing they are of the same category of Grand Nite Champion, Nite Champion, or Registered). After all that is done we take all the rest of the wait listed dogs and put them together, with qualified guides and judges, to hunt. That way everyone gets to go to the woods.
The dogs that are not on the wait list will get a card when they confirm Friday and Saturday that tells them their exact cast number. Dogs on the wait list will come back at 3 pm to see what cast number they have been drawn to. Then at 3:30 pm the cast numbers will be called for all dogs letting you know where you will be hunting from.
The only way the wait listed dogs would not get to compete would be if we didn’t have any more possible guides. This rarely happens at any of our major events. Talking with folks around here, we can’t remember the last time we weren’t able to hunt all dogs entered, wait listed or not.
I’ve been calling the satellite clubs and they have really worked hard at getting guides. We are also receiving an unbelievable amount of support from people outside of the coon hunting community. Right now we could theoretically hunt more dogs than were pre-entered. If you are on the wait list, you will get to hunt.
I’m not going to lie, at the first of last week we were a little nervous wondering if we’d have enough guides but our satellite clubs have really come through for us in a big way. They have really stepped up to hold this record breaking event. We could not, in any way, do it without all the fine folks at these satellite clubs.
We at the United Kennel Club are looking for a great event in Batesville, MS next weekend. I’m sure if you make the trek you will be pleasantly surprised at the facility, the hunting, and the hospitality of the locals.
See you at the 2013 UKC Winter Classic!

I am a hunting guide what time do I need to show up?
First and foremost, Thank You UKC for putting all your hard work into planning for us hunters a quality event. It will be a big win for me to just be able to say I got to attend such a large event.
Secondly and allmost as important, I would like to thank all the folks in and around the Batesville area for coming together in an effort to assure we (hunters) have a safe and favorable place to turn our treasured hounds loose, so that we all can participate in an event such as this.
Your willingness to offer your time and resources does not go unnoticed from my perspective. Though I will be at the mercy of the draw, (so to speak) I look forward to coming to your town and hunting in your part of the country. We all know it takes at least three major components to have a winning weekend.
A-You need a very good hound that is tuned to perfection
B-You need a good guide, that can put you in coon that have not been dogged to death.
C-You need just a little luck, so that you don't make a mistake, when calling your dog.
When all these things come together, You get to come home with your head held high, and some hardware that says your hound preformed like a champion on that particular night.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL & BE SAFE IN YOUR TRAVELS!!!

I hope everyone who is on the wait list reads this and shows up.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. We here at UKC have been working to make this the best event possible. I really think everyone is going to enjoy their time in Batesville.
The real accolades need to go to the local clubs though. They have really been great to work with. I know they are all looking forward to this event and are getting their guides lined up and ready. We honestly could not do it without them.

We are still getting a ton of calls about the wait list. I hope everyone reads this and spreads the news that if you've paid your entry and are on the wait list SHOW UP -- you will get to hunt. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Paul do you mind listing all the clubs that are helping so that the hunters will hsve an idea where they are going and msybe support these clubs in the future. I'm hunting out of the Casilla club;think we're taking 15 to 20 casts. Thanks, Jr.
Just wondering if you could l let us know how far the furthest satellite club will be from the fairgrounds? Thanks
How do you know if your on the wait list or your in?

I will try to get the satellite clubs posted on here first thing tomorrow. The furthest drive time is about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I don't think that's too bad for this size event. I've been to breed days where I've drive farther and nowhere near 885 dogs were hunted.
If your entry number is above 500 you are on the wait list BUT all dogs, including those wait listed, will get to hunt due to our awesome satellite clubs and guides.

Thanks. Its about 40 minutes to Cassilla club, about an hour and 10 minutes to Winona's club.
Here are the clubs that have been instrumental in the 2013 UKC Winter Classic:
Tinside Coonhunters Association (local club), Batesville, MS
Northwest Mississippi Coonhunters Association, Arkabutla, MS
Hatchie Coon Club, Walnut, MS
Blackhawk Coonhunters Association, Cascilla, MS (the guide maps will say Grenada, MS as they have rented a facility there for this event)
Midway Coon Club, Vardaman, MS
Winona Coonhunters Association, Winona, MS
East Arkansas Coonhunters Association, Marianna, AR
These clubs have really stepped up and have been great to work with. There are also a few other "feeder" clubs that are sending members to some of the satellites to help guide that have been awesome as well.
By talking to these fine folks I can tell they are excited to have this event in Batesville. All of the clubs are going to have kitchens open when hunters get there and I'm pretty sure all of them will have breakfast ready when you get back from hunting. Please support these clubs while you're there and show them how much we all appreciate their hard work. If you've ever been involved in a major event like this you know it takes lots of time and patience from the local clubs to make it work. I can honestly say I have only positive things to say about each of these clubs. They all have met and exceeded our expectations!
