NC Coons???

Is anyone else having any trouble treeing any coons right now in NC ? We have not had a good rain in a long time and seems like more den trees and slick trees and not many good tracks lately.

nc is in trouble as far as coons go. if average hunter trees 1 a night you've had a good night, and would advise to leave it unless a pup really needs one, it treed.

i've been hunting a national forest for 12 yrs. and have never seen a coon on the road in the forest. i tree one every now and then. my dogs have taken to running fox so i guess that'll have to do.

Let me tell you about coons in NC. I know some of these guys in thick coon arent going to like this statement but I would venture to say if they were used to treeing 6-8 a night and being back at home on the couch in 3-4 hours, then came down here and treed 2-3 in 8-10 hours hunting they probably would not be in the sport long. Not to mention possibly going several nights in a row without bushing even one!
There will be those to come on here and talk about dog power or whatever but if they bring their dogs here they will not tree any more than anyone else!
I had what I would call an excellent, untypical night about a week ago a couple hours drive from home and treed 4 singles. I hunted from 8pm until 3am. This is an area that I would consider thick coon compared to where I live, not thick compared to Ohio, Indiana, or Michigan mind you!
I went last night to the same area and treed one single, ran one in a hole, one slick, and made two trees that were huge but never seen the coons. They could have easily been there but who knows. All that took five hours.

We been treeing some but not like I'd like to, made a few slick trees too. I thought for a while it was the dry weather and all the leaves falling but we had a pretty good rain and seems like the dogs looked worse after than before. I really don't know man we might need a dog but I don't know of anything I'd have, lol

we usualy tree 1 - 2 a nite sometimes we will hunt all nite an tree 4-5 but we will make 10-15 trees most our trees are thick cover coon could be there just cant get him to look or cant find him my brother does not go for that he could be up there if he does not see the coon he calls it a slick lol i go by the type of tree it is you can tell if its a coon tree thos big ol cypress an oak trees mostly the coon will be at the very tip top of the tree example tonite the dog treed down in a valley about 280yrds my brother an friend was up on the trussels of the rail road an cold see us down at the tree they were shinning an seen several coon eyes in the very top of the trees so when we are down at the tree we can not see the very tip top of the tree i think NC coons runs harder than any other in any other state i have seen them hit the tree an go from tree to tree (talking about turn loose coons) if a turned loose coon will go strait up an wont stop till 5 trees over i think all does that in my opinion some wont but i think most nc coons do here is a lil advice when you can not get the coon to look or you cant find the coon go ahead an leave the tree try an get far away from tree as you can an get in different angles of the tree that you can see that you normaly cant when at the tree 8 outta 10 xs we have been able to find the coon this way. second check 3-4 trees down an side by trees just not check the tree the dog is on cause as i said i think nc coons crosses sevral trees before they quit moving

I made 6 dens last week 3 in orange county and 3 in Randolph county. I have feeders in a couple of my spots and the coons never tree on the bucket or corn piles. They always go 3 to 4 hundred yards before they tree and its usually a den.

There are small pockets of areas that have that kind of coon, like I said, I treed four singles the other night but it took several hours to do it.
By the way, is the limit not three a night for your hunting party?
