Drought

Here in MN. where I live we've had 1/3 inch of rain since the August 3rd. This year is one of the worst I've seen in my 72+ years. There was a year in the 60's when it was this bad and one in the 70's almost as bad. It's about impossible to train a young dog around here as dry at it is. Every where it is so dustly even the dogs are sneezing. Corn fields are so dry the dirt between the rows is nothing but dust on top and as hard as a rock. Walking in the woods is so dusty all I do is sneeze. Even the old dogs are having trouble, seem to take longer when checking trees to settle. WE NEED RAIN!
How are the rest of you people doing in your area with moisture and hunting?

Pretty dry here in northern WV. Creeks are low and ground dry. Makes it tough when all the coons are high on the hills in oaks.

I hear around here they are hiring people to catch frogs and bring them to the local swimming pools a teach then to swim, just in case we get enough rain to fill some of the streams and creeks that have dried up so if the frogs end up in water they don't drown. Now that's dry. LOL!

Here in east central Illinois it was drier than a popcorn fart July the whole month 1 rain 3 1/2" August 2 1/4" Sept. had the most so far some of the corn ranges from 5 bu. per acre up to 150 bu. per acre, the 150 usually makes 180 up to 200 plus. Huntin' is better with some moisture in the ground now.

SE Michigan we finally started getting some rain over the past month, Corn and beans starting to come out, some corn never pollinated, other fields 50 bushel when it should be 180. Only the larger creeks near the rivers or lakes holding any water now.

Sounds like what we deal with on an annual basis of course we are on the eastern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert. You better have a dog with a nose or you can't play in these conditions.
Adios,
Gary

Still no measureable rain since Aug. 3rd. Dogs having hard time. Hope we get rain before season starts. Was able to tree a couple again last night, but the dogs had to drift at times to pick up the track again. Walking to trees I don't know how the dogs can even track.

At my place here in NE, I am tracking .85 since the beginning of May. It's not pretty, deer are dying off all over the place, creeks, and dams have been dry all summer. The old timers are saying it is the worst it has ever been in their lifetimes. So far though, coon hunting has been really good. Just find a place with any moisture what so ever and turn the hounds loose.
