Check your cooling coil on the inside. If its freezing up your low on freon. Check your breakers also. May have one tripped.

capacitor

Sounds like a bad capacitor. If you take the electrical cover off the outside unit and look at the capacitor if it's bad it will ususally be swelled up like a frozen beer can.

Hillbilly,

I hope it's just your capacitor. We just had our a/c go out as well and the same situation as yours, but it was the compressor. So instead of a few hundred dollars not to sweat to death down here it ended up being almost three thousand dollars

Hope it aint much. Had to replace ours a couple yrs ago. Could have bought a real coondog or small truck with what that cost.

LOL. Our wonderful President has us doing jobs now that we wouldn't normally try with the economy like it is. He would tell you to open the windows and buy a couple of box fans. Watch the capacitor. They will hold an electrical charge sometimes. One got me one time. Like to have bit the end of my tounge off when it hit me. Lol

We opened the windows and used a couple of big fans....lol...It was still miserable as it stayed 86 degrees all night and the humidity was 90%+...I was all about Hope & Change
