For you LED light experts........

I have been told that the LED heads, about all of them, can only make use of around 17 volts and any more than that isn't used or of any use. In other words, a 24,26,28v cannot be any brighter than a 17v using the same head. Is this true or not?

I would say that it is not true because my G2 is brighter when connected to my 21v than my 17v light. A good bit brighter actually.

I'm no expert but I have plugged a Valley Creek 5 LED into a 18 volt, the valley creek pro battery and a bright eyes 28 volt pack. I couldn't tell any noticable difference.

I would like to hear what people that know have to say.

You need to see if KevinR will talk to you about this. He is a guru when it comes to LED lights.

It is my understanding that you are correct that they only take 17 volts but KevinR is the expert.

i'll have to ask Conkey, I'd say he would know.

Jim each LED only uses a little over three volts a piece. So a 5 LED head would use a little over 15 volts. However that all depends on how they are wired and if they use a buck or boost driver. It is not as simple as a filament bulb were the more voltage you give it the brighter it gets. For an LED head the more voltage it uses the less current is used resulting in longer burn times. That’s why the 5 led heads burn longer on a belt light than they do a cap light. I’m no expert but I hope this helps.

I have the Bright Eyes 6 LED head with the 25V battery pack. I had to send the battery back once and kept the head here and hooked it up to my 21V Blazer. Everything worked but the dimmest switch... So I would say the more you have in your battery, the brighter your lower settings would be.

For example, my 25V battery has 4 clicks and they are work nice. When I hook up the 21V it has 4 as well, but 1 doesn't work and 2 is very dim....

That's a switch deal. I have several lights that only run wide open with my Boss head because they don't have the right switch for the Boss. Same with my G2 switch, you need a switch that is compatible with the G2 head to get the full range. I don't think that is really an answer to my question.

When I bought my G2 package from Mike Kelley I asked him if I could use my 26 volt Valley Creek pack on it. His words were that I could. The head WOULD NOT be any brighter, but, my 26 volt belt pack WOULD LAST LONGER.
