Kennel Cough
Took my hound ace to a hunt about 3 weeks ago.He started hacking about 10 days ago. Then my cold sweat female started hacking couple days ago.Took her to a vet. She gave both dogs cough medicine and antibotiks.Hoping this will help them.I read alot on it It sometimes clears itself up but didnt so lets see what this does but it does spread.THought I would let you all know
kennel cough is highly infectious. will get it if you even walk somewhere that a dog has had it. canine influenza is on the prowl also. beware. it can cause pneumonia. anywhere you may come in contact with another canine, or carry it on yourself, you might want to vaccinate. i have had kennel cough in my place and trust me, you will not sleep through the night if your dog is in the house.

i have a whole kennel just getting over it, some jackass brought a sick red dog to the chesaning coon club. now there is a lot of us that got it, why if your dog is hacking would you bring it to the club so everyone else can get it, as of yesterday i have spent 400 dollars on meds.
It has already cost me 100 dollars
There was only 2 other dogs in the cast.I never let him out of the dog box.For that reason alone. This last win is kickin my butt I need to finish him out.I might just pleasure hunt and forget about the hunts.
The hound I keep inside had it twice towards the end of the summer this year. The batch of dogs I'd brought with me when I left for work that week ended up having a mild cough, but it wasn't NEARLY has bad as the one that stays inside. A couple things I tried that seemed to help...I poured about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in every five gallon water bucket, and gave them all a couple teaspoons of honey to help with their cough. Waylon was keeping me awake half the night coughing (he sleeps in the bed with me), but when I gave him the honey before bedtime he was usually ok until morning. I'd heard the vinegar would help stop it from spreading so rapidly-don't know if that was really the reason or not, but out of the 20 dogs I keep at my actual home, maybe 1 or 2 ended up getting it when I brought the others home (we put the vinegar in their water as well).
On another note, the intranasal vaccine for kennel cough seems to work pretty well. I tried it for the first time on a 10 week old puppy that I brought home around the time these dogs were sick, and he never got so much as a sniffle. I'll definitely be using it on all my hounds from now on!

Taking them to the vet paid off
Medcine seems to be working.
Put the dog in a large petmate kennel with a sheet of plastic over the front of it with a vic's vaporizor blowing into the crate. This will get them over it in most cases within a few days.

Kennel Cough is canine bronchitis. As long as it doesn't turn into pneumonia it will pass with time. Lots of REST and fluids. Pneumonia is a concern so keep an eye on your dog.

kennel cough
We had it and the vet said to use musinex for a large dog break the tablet in half and give it to them twice daily it realy helps the dog produce mucus and clear them up so they don't just sit there and hack with a dry cough it worked well for us. Hope this helps.
