Patience my a**

Being scratched 2 nights in a row because my dog backed on a possum is a bit ridiculous. It's gonna be a long long week for a certain english dog that I know around here.

George,

In 2007,I qualified my dog for the World Championship.Went to the Regionals and drew out with 3 other Walker dogs.2 Walkers got 1st & 2nd strike.My dog got 3rd.All3 dogs treed in the same order.4th dog never got struck in.I kinda thought that was odd.Got to the tree and there sat a slicktail.I was pissed.But,he has never before and never since treed another.It was just very depressing that he made it to that point and I drove 7 hrs. just for somethin' like that to happen.

when i was younger my dad won an RQE with a rather fine walker bitch. took first place. went to the zones and was high scoring dog the first night, next night said bitch was winning cast and backed on a possum late in the hunt.

it happens, theyre dogs :]

What is meant by by "backed on a possum"?
Does that make it worse because they are doing something they already know they shouldnt or is worse because they are doing something just because the other dog did? Does it mean the dog did not get first tree on the possum? Or by saying it this way does it make someone feel a little better about the situation?
If I have a dog that is going to fool with a possum, I would rather him do it wholeheartedly rather than just because another dog did! Seems I could break one easier that way!

Jim i feel your pain, Brad its been ugly this week around here also, have you ever wonder what goes on in a dogs mind, heres my scenario, My dog has not treed a possum for 4 months i thought i cured the problem short of his death , but for some uknown facination he cannot leave them alone Strike him and tree him and i get about 75 yards from the tree and hes GONE theres a 125 - because he will get first on it by himself and Heavan forbid something trees with him he is proud, i am sure glad that PETA wasnt around Tonight LOL good luck on old CAT

Swear to "GOD".... I've never walked into a tree and looked at a grinner hunting this line of dogs and I've had them for years.

Yeah Jim and David, just rub it in a little that your dogs get the first and first, lol. I'm working on getting him quicker on them at least. Hey if he's gonna tree them I want him to do it with authority like your all's dogs.

ok, last night was better

3 dog cast First and first, couldn't find it, wooly tree with grapevines in it. Next drop, first and first, all alone, and Mr Racoon was spotted and scored. Next drop 1 dog withdrawn, first strike, had to get him out of a hole under a rock ledge (too far back in there to see if the coon was close enough to see) luckily he came out to me, I'm not happy about the hole. Last drop, other dog withdraws, he's all alone out there, opens with about 12 minutes in the hunt on a rough track in a small hollow, grubs it out and tree's about 2 minutes after the hunt is ovver with a kitten coon in a small tree. 225 plus wasn't nearly enough to get a nt ch win , but at least he was working like he was supposed to for the biggest part.

You can lose and still be satisfied for sure. He was on one tree with the other dogs last night on the first drop, then deep and alone for the rest of the night. He missed a layup by two trees at the end of the hunt and took a 225 minus to end a very sorry hunt. The cast did manage to see one coon tree'd, but it was pitiful to say the least. If they aren't moving, theres not much you can do.
