-- garmin antenna question. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=358222)

garmin antenna question.

for those that have both, which picks up the farthest? Ive used the magnet mount vehicle antenna, and it does well, but does the long range antenna do better? its a difference of about $20 plus some convience issues.

where i hunt, there is little need for me to carry a longer range antenna with me.

thanks

I get just a little better distance with the truck mount than the long range. I have gotten 5-6 miles with it under the right conditions.

here in the mountins the truck antenna works better than the folding... i just use the one that comes with it and they dont get out of range with that much but if they do i got back to the truck and use that one.

I GET 1100 YARDS WITH THE RUBBER ANTENNA AND ABOUT 2 MILES WITH THE FOLDING ANTENNA.

I

know it all depends on where you are at and your unit but in most cases it goes like this. Antenna that comes with it least distance, folding one a little farther, garmin hand held a little farther than folding, truck mount a little farther than hand held.

Blue Blue is correct

Blue Blue got the same results I have.

I have tested these antennas many times and continue to test antennas I feel will work well.

I will list some of the distance I got while testing. Note these are the best results and most of the time my distances are just below these.

Mag. Truck Antenna 4.5 miles
Garmin Long Range Antenna 3.3 miles
Folding Antenna 1.8 miles
Rubber antenna I have got 1.5 miles once but if I get a mile it is doing good.

I had a guy tell me he got 13 miles out of a certain antenna and got a consistent 7 miles out of it. I spent $100 building this antenna and got 2 miles solid. I did get 6 miles once from it, but that is when I went over a big bridge and lost signal as soon as I came off the bridge. It all has to do with line of sight and cover.

Here in the mountains of WV I have gotten up to 1 mile with the rubber antenna. Usually I can get 800 Yards. Never had to use the other two to find out. Hope I never need to.

Bruce

i'm with you on the distance for each. I like you know there all kind of exceptions but folks the numbers Bruce posted will be close under pretty normal conditions.
