I have never taught a dog to fence but all of them get over fences without barking about it. They just learn. You leave a pup behind and that pup will figure it out.

NOT A GOOD IDEA. BECAUSE HE NOW STAYS CHAINED INSIDE HIS KENNEL.

HE WILL START WITH TRYING TO MAKE A HOLE WITH HIS NOSE. THEN HE WILL WOLLER HIS FACE BACK AND FORTH AND MAKE THE HOLE BIGGER. THEN HE WILL EASE A FOOT IN AND KEEP WIGGLING AND ADDING BODY PARTS TO MAKE THE HOLE BIGGER UNTIL HE CAN GET THROUGH IT. IF HE CANT GO THROUGH IT, HE WILL GO OVER IT. NO MATTER IF IT IS 5 FOOT OR 7 FOOT.

SOOOOOO. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! LOL.

I have constructed "fences" inside the kennels to keep dogs that I got from other parts of the country. Teaching a pup to fence is easy, teaching a three year old takes a little strategy.

Basically I put a low fence in teh kennel, and feed/water on one side, house on the other. Make it low enough they can cross easily and add to the height as they learn how....never had one leave here that got hung up on a fence!

Yep teach them to jump. We have hog wire around here. Sure beets climbing to. You can still keep them in a 6-8 foot fence.

What about electric fences? Everyone around here thinks they have to put the juice to their fence.

Had a dog trailing the other night, jumped through an electric fence and got zapped. The dog sat on the other side of the fence for 2 hours frozen like a statue. He wouldn't bark or move his head, he wouldn't even swallow looked like he was foaming at the mouth when I found him!

Yea those fences are hot these days. Had one on the ground the other night and it was still poping loud enough you could here it a block away. Those wead burners will knock you in the dirt too. I use to just ground them out while I was there and if it isn't a wead burner I still will. Lean a pipe or something against them or take a wire and run it to a steal post and drop it on the fence. Then just knock it off before you leave.
I like the dogs to jump them but haven't taught either of the ones I have right now to do so. The black will jump the hog wire and gates.
