Dual sire question

Thinking of getting a pup that is dual sired. How does the registration work? What do the papers look like?

A litter can be dual sired, but each individual pup is only sired by one individual sire. That is why the pups most be DNA profiled to determine the correct sire.

The ONLY difference is that you likey wont be getting puppy papers. The pup will be named, and also will be DNA-VIP

The advantage is that you can certainly evaluate a female for breeding purposes...or get "two litters" of pups with one breeding...

I'm kicking the idea around some.

I know where some frozen semen is on a stud that I'd like to get some pups out of. But there is some question on the quality of the semen and I want to minimize the risk of not getting pups. So, I've thought about breeding the female with the frozen semen, waiting a day or two and then using another stud as "cleanup".

My luck the cleanup dog will be the sire of all the pups and I've paid to have all the pups DNA'd for nothing.

Like Joe said you can trim years off your Breeding Program time by Using Dual Sires plus determine Which is the Best Sire for a second run on the Line ..

Is the breeder responsible for the DNA profile or will that need to be completed after the pup is purchased?

What if the two sires are from the same litter?

Sometimes even a Father and Son Dual Breeding is though for a 99% Proof DNA .. We did one and had to go out to 32 Markers to know for sure !! But you could do another Father / Son Siring and it could come up Proof Positive with a smaller # of Markers.. So I guess it could go eather way with a siring of 2 Brothers ..

We have another Dual Sire Breeding coming up in 2011 that will be Father/Son mixed semen AI ..

why would dna"d be a problem.dont frozen semen have
to be surgicly inplanted 2-5 thousand plus semen plus
stud fee on the clean up dog.

Here is the way that it works... It is an expensive proposition, and takes some patience and work on the part of the breeder.

There is a fee for the dual sire application. At the time of submtting the application, the dam and both sires must be DNA profiled, and those profiles must be submitted with the application.

You will get two sets of "puppy papers", you must then name each pup in the litter, and submit DNA samples for each pup.(as the breeder)

The pup's DNA is completed, and a comparison is completed against the DNA of the Dam and both sires. This will shed light on which sire actually is the sire of each pup. UKC then issues "correct" papers for each pup.....

So to answer your question, this all has to be done BEFORE the pup has papers issued....
