Dry up
Does anybody know how long it will take a gyp to dry up after having puppies? The pups never got to nurse.

GO TO THE VET......
AND GET HER A SHOT TO DRY UP AND YOU CAN HUNT HER IN 7 TO 10 DAYS. IT IS WORTH IT, SHE WILL NOT SAG AS BAD AFTERWARDS EITHER.

I was gonna post something almost just like this on the board until I read your post lol. My pups are 5 and a half weeks. We weemed them yesterday and I was wondering when it would be safe to hunt her?

In my experince hunting them and getting them back in shape helps as much as anything in drying and tightening back up.

GIVE IT A TRY, SHE WILL DRY UP CLEANER THAN YOU HAVE EVER SEEN ONE DRY UP. YOU ARE WELCOME FOR THE INFO. AND SAFE HUNTING.

What is the name of the shot the Vet gives to dry them up
I tried to see if the vet had a shot he could give my female to help dry her up because I had a big show coming and wanted to get her back in the woods. He basically told me he wouldn't give it to her. I gave up on that idea and went back to exercise and using Preparation H/Vicks on her belly, and she looked a LOT better in a couple weeks.

Re: Dry up
quote:CUT HER FEED OFF A FEW DAYS AND WHEN YOU START BACK FEEDING HER GIVE HER LIKE 1/4 WHAT YOU NORMALLY DO FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN INCREASE TO 1/2 FOR A FEW DAYS THEN 3/4 A FEW DAYS THEN BACK TO NORMAL. NO FOOD AND NO NURSING ALONG WITH WASHING HER TEATS IN ALUM WATER IS WHAT I ALWAYS DID. I DON'T LIKE THE SHOT THING. IT'S NOT NICE TO FOOL WITH MOTHER NATURE.

Here is what I used and trust me it works. Dexasone 4mg - I have also used this in the past for snake bites. I couldn't believe how well it works. 10 - 12cc's and you can notice a difference in no time.

I am with Gummy on this one....
I don't like jackin' around with Mother Nature with shots....
I withdraw food for 24 hours. On the second and third day she gets about 1/4 of her normal feed. The 4th day half ration and then back to full ration by the 5th day...In doing this, the body goes into defense mode and uses up what her body had stored up to make the milk. She is not going to starve to death.
Exercise is very important to tone the body back up.
