Health Question

I noticed a small, round, bloody spot on my young male dog last night. It is about the size of a dime, on his front leg. Does anyone know what it is and how I can get rid of them.

I had two young males a few years back from the same blood that got these also. I took them to the vet and never heard anything back. They got them all over the place, but mostly on their legs and head, and they just came out of the blue and started multiplying, same as this pup. My pup just has the one for now, and will be going to the vet tomorrow.

It can't be anything to do with location, because this pup has never set foot on the ground where I raised the other two.

I think that it is some sort of hereditary skin problem. His coat looks good and slick and shiney. As far as at home, he is on a 20' tie out with good clean bedding. There is nothing close to him that could cause an irritation or anything. Always gets his feed in a pan and has clean fresh water daily. He gets wormed monthly with Ivermectin Horse Wormer as do all my dogs.

Now that I think obout it the other two came up with this same stuff at about the same age.

If anyone knows anything, or even thinks they know, please give your opinion.

Thanks

Any other places?

Check inside the ears and in the mouth. If there are any ulcerations in there it could be an auto immune skin disease so check that out. In the mouth it would look like canker sores in a human. If you find any there I can give you more info. We had a foster BnT female here who had a fatal skin disease. It's rare though.
Oh, also check between the toes. Only reason we even found what our little gal had was because our younger vet had done some allergy and skin disease research in vet school...

I bet yours is Nothing..... Hoping so! Heather

I checked him out good last night and I didn't see anything in his ears. I didn't look in his mouth though, I'll do that as soon as I get home this afternoon.

Ivermectin is supposed to kill round worms, I thought anyway. I'll check the box when I get home.

Thanks for the info.

Anymore ideas

Good on the ears...fingers crossed on the mouth... I'm betting htere will be none. Like I said, what Our gal had was REALLY rare... problem is... she was a REALLY nice female and HAD obviously had pups before she strayed... and her disease is hereditary...
She ended up living here till she died... I adored her. So did Bob... she was the type of hound you KNEW had a great hunting home... I still miss her a lot. She was very patient with all her medical treatments.... a real doll..... Blind as a bat, older than the hills and HAPPY even as she was at the vet being put to sleep

Never dreamed I WOULD be so taken over by a BnT! She ruined me for good...look how much time I spend looking at these black dawgs!
Good luck with your pup! Heather

Location...

... where is the sore on his leg? Could it just be a rub? How about a picture of it? Maybe someone will see it and be able to figure it out that way????
LOL... Little Nurse Heather.... too many years spent doing rehab with horses....

Ivermectic does kill round worms, but I bet what they meant was ring worm which is a kind of fungus that can cause sores on the skin.

Sounds like what we use to call "hotspots". Probably ringworm or a fungus of some sort..We use to put Desenex or some type of athlete's foot ointment on them.....Have also seen a type of mange that starts with spots about the size of a dime/quarter.. If it starts spreading I'd see a vet...Good Luck..

Your probably right there John. Athletes foot Spray works great on any skin fungis.

could be an infected spot after a tick dropped. Keep an eye out. I noticed that before mine got sick.
