You left a few good ones out like: Carl Carroll, Ed Bates, Russ Meyers just to name a few. If these two where on here I'd choose Mr. Carroll because hes done alot for the english breed.

what do you mean most popular? fun to draw, pleasure hunt with, etc.....
Mike,
I am talking about all around most popular---when you think of one man that would symbolize the sport.
My commitee is working on a honorable mentioned list right now.....
DID YOU FORGET JOHN WICK.
your kids or dad. hands down. the rest, all good guys, but pale compared to the first two.
OK
From the World Wide Coonhunting Federation {W.W.C.F.}
Formally known as Dewey, Screwem, and Howe. We have a Honorable Mentioned List;
Carl Carroll
Randy Scaggs
Tim Whitaker
Buzz Lynch
Dick Brothers
Mac McCallister
David Fletcher
Chuck Schmersal
Terry Daniels
Mike McComber
Gary Hern
Jerry Moll
Gary Starns
Ed Mead
Emmit Brohard
Lester Nance
Ed Yates
Ronnie Bone
Ronnie Smith
Tom Bates
Rick Stretch
John Wick
J.C. Ellis
Delton Hall
Guy Ormanstin
Mike Dohoney
Earl Tippin
Laverne Miller
Paul Sheffield
R.D. Carnagie
Jarvis Umphers
Fred Moran
Kenny Abbott
Ronnie Nickens
Brian Wessel
Alan Kalal
Paul Dressen
Lee Logan
Buddy Gilbert
Raby Smith
a good arguement could be made for most of the names on that list. I would say the most popular to each person depends on the breed they favor. All are definetly deserving of acknowledgement.

Mike,
when you say most popular World Wide, I don't see how you can leave Dale Brandenburger off of your list. Dale has probably sold more dogs in Japan alone than some of these guys have sold in their own State.
There are other names that come to mind also, like:::::::::
Mr. Hershberger
Herb Carsten who started Finley River Chief on his road to fame.
The Von Plotts
Elbert Vaughn
And how can anyone forget about Mr. O. L. Beckman
There were some more awfully popular guy's in the past, that were Breeders & backers of Redbones, Black & Tans, & English also.
My vote would be between James Merchant & Dale Brandenburger.
