Hunting grounds

Where in the US is the best coon hunting as far as coon population, woods and being hunter friendly???

As far as being hound friend, eastern North Carolina from I95 all the way to the coast is dog hunting whether it be for deer, bear, fox, coon etc. Lots of land and lots of dog men. It is however some very rough, wet and thick woods.

I think standard answer may be two out of three, I have tons of coon, good ground to hunt (about 3 to 5000 acres of state land) however in fall time deer hunters take up much of private land. Most of the state land is river bottom with state land agricultural mixed.

No matter where u go hound hunters are being pushed out like Perry said friendly is a thing of the past it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if deer got a disease n wiped them down to nothing there killing hound hunting period

They are extended deer season North Carolina into the first full week of Jan. That translates into coon season being one week shorter for me. I am going to hunt get gamelands this year. It’s not ideal coon hunting but it’s close, a ton of land and I don’t have to cater to deer hunters.

Deer hunting hasnt affected my coon hunting at all. Whether its
Public land or private i keep hunting right through deer season.
I would say i live in a hound friendly area. Dont have much problems. Im not saying i have none because thats not true. There is always some bad apples but for the most part its great. Ut is easy to get permission especially for coon hunting. Alnost anybody will let you hunt them. There is enough public land around. About 40,000 acres within a half hour. Triple that a little farther out. Descent coon population. Mix of woods , crop ground , rangeland and wetland. I am fortunate to be able to hunt out my backdoor for veral miles and across the road and pretty much anywhere i want to for that matter.

We have a lot of forest service land that is big timber but mostly pine and the coons are very scattered....private land has a lot of coons but deer hunters have control of that...they don't like the coons eatin their corn but don't want dogs in there either....

Hands down, the best coon population is northern Indiana, southern Michigan, northwest Ohio
