Daytime hunting?
Has anyone ever tried hunting during the day time when temperatures are really cold? Have some very cold weather coming, and I have seen coons sitting up during the day before when it gets cold out. Was just wondering if anyone has tried it and how it went.
.
Works down here in FL on some of our colder 30 degree days.

Just can't resist rubbing it in,can you Bruce.lol
This time of year---
I hit the cattails during the day. Can really fire up a young hound when they get one out of their bed and the chase is on. Find a muskrat house to stand on and listen to a good race.
Don't like to run them when the temps are below -10,(we're-12 with -30 wind-chill now) but -5 and above they do a nice job. Awesome training and with the prices all you are out is gas money--only carry the 22 in case there's a coyote around.

2ol2hunt I am dead serious. I use to have a friend that came down every year during the winter. If it was in the 30's we were coon hunting during the day. Actually you can hunt these cypress ponds during the day in the Summer. Just very hard on man and dog.

I came down to Florida and hunted those ponds until I ran up on a large gator and now it doesn't matter to me if it's dark or light, hot or cool.... NOT ME...lol, but we did tree a few coons.
I was told wipeout zeb treed more coons in the day than most hounds could tree at night. I know when they were preparing him for hunts they would shift hunt him. They would him from 6 at night until 10-12 the next day.
So I've been thinking on trying this. I'd assume you'd want to go the warmest part of the day. Our temps are down to single digits during the day and right around 0 or negative temps at night. And here December and January are the roughest for coon movement. Seems they den up for the better part of a month. But the rut starts late January and they move really well all night from then on.
Day
I've been out twice now once at about 230 turned loose and yesterday didn't get to turn loose until about 4pm. Treed 2 dens the first time out and 3 dens yesterday. Had one good track yesterday and thought we were going to have an open coon but he got back to the den. I am going to try again around 12-1, thinking that will be the best time. Even though I'm treeing dens that's all we are doing at night right now with it being so cold, so might as well go when it's warmer for me and the dog.
squirrels?

This coon was on a feeder just an hour and a half ago. My dogs probably could have treed him.
