White River Refuage
I know this topic is beat to death but which side is the best to hunt. I will be there first week of Dec. Can't remember what side people say was cut.
Thanks in advance for replies
There's been a lot of cutting on the south end, not sure about the north. I figure as dry as it's been the loggers have been going full blast down there. The south opens Dec. 1st, and that usually means everybody and his dog are down there, but it's my favorite side. Mostly because I've hunted it enough to know where I am and how to get away from the crowds.
This old man is excited
Me and my buddy are going to be there Nov 28> Dec 2 Man I hope we have good weather. We are staying at Maddox Lodge. Wondering about the weather.

Planning to make a trip down there this year myself for the first time. Anyone have a good map of the ATV trails? If there is is way to get them in the garmin or a pdf map that is referenced so it can be used in avenza that would be awesome.
Jason,
If there's a "good" map of the trail system, I haven't seen it. I had what I thought was a good layer on my Garmin, but it showed trails that didn't exist, and only about half of the ones that did exist. I bet you could call and talk to someone at the refuge office about a referenced PDF map. I go see them nearly every year when I'm down there and if you're able to visit with a biologist or one of their wage grade equipment operators, they're usually pretty helpful. Their office is just south of Hwy 1 in St. Charles, on the west side of the White River Bridge. That's also a good place to pick up the refuge brochure that they require you to sign and carry with you.
They have excellent paper maps at welcome center along with permit that you must have
I just talked to a fellow that works there and turns out I use to work with the guy in TX. He said they don't really have a good map of the ATV trails. He said you can buy a map from mack's prairie Wings in Stuttgart that has all of the ATV trails on. It cost about $40. It is what he uses.
