stephens cur running tracks everywhere

I have a Stephens that is year and half and running tracks everywhere we go, not sure what he is running maybe rabbits or deer, but has treed squirrels. Don't know what to do just keep hunting him?

To I saw and could confirm that it was not desired game I wouldn't do anything but hunt it. If I saw it was trash I would correct it enough to get it stopped.

Most likely it will mature through it with time and patience.

I don't know why I let these questions gnaw at me but I do. I have been mulling this one over in my head a while since answering your post and I still stand by my original answer but I have some questions.

How far is the dog going when it is running/trailing? Is it smoking what it is running or just half way doing it? Also every young dog I have ever had would bump a rabbit, never had many bad on deer but most all would run a rabbit. I usually wound up seeing them, I would figure you would if that is what your dog is running.

Just trying to get a handle on what it may be doing. You don't think by chance it is opening on squirrel tracks do you?

Is he barking when he comes back?

not barking

No he's not barking when he comes back. Main things is I don't want him running deer or hogs. Just want to do the right thing first, mostly had feist.

Do you guys have chipmunks or ground squirrels whatever you might call them down there? If you do and they are anything like what we have here he probably would also be digging some. Once in a while I have had to give my dogs heck for messing with them but they straighten back out with some scolding. They mess with them in the yard but for the most part learn to ignore them in the woods.

Is his head on the ground? Had a female here that would go 100-200 yds just like burning a deer. She was winding squirrels.
