?on split trees
Its a fiur dog cast dog A is treed then dog b gets treed and the guy for dog b said his dog is split from dog a so I'm dog c and i tree my dog and dog d is still the five is up we start to walk in to score the dogs and doga/b leve there tree do they both get 125- cuz they were call split or is it just dog a that gets the 125- i said dog a/b both get the 125- cuz they were called. split am i right on this or no
If I'm the judge and you call your dog on a split tree when it's not obvious, I will accept the call but will explain that if the dogs are on the same tree that dog B will be minused
Dogs A and B each would get -125 for leaving the trees and dog C would receive 75 tree points to be scored per the tree.

Only the judge decides weather or not a dog is split, and he should announce to the cast when he does.
If he had recorded the dogs as split on the card... 125 each... then that would be the amount of minus they would receive for leaveing.

Dog a/b were declared split by the handler so they get -125 and dog c gets 125 plus cuz dog see was no where near where dog a/b were treed at thsts how it should be right cuz the handlers declared their dogs split

(c) Split Trees. Where dogs split up, Judge will go with handler to the dog that
trees first. If a split tree is obvious (Judge’s decision), split tree will be
assigned.....
If it isn't obvious than as a judge I don't give them the split. I explain when we get to where I can tell they are split then I will assign the places. They can call split all day but it has to be obvious. I have had handlers claiming split on every tree to try to move up. But when we get there they are on the same tree. I don't minus them, but rather assign the places as called. But that's me as a judge. Some of these huge trees can make dogs sound split then as you get close you see its a huge tree or has a huge hollow spot the dog is barking in. I try to do the right thing no one is perfect.....
Back to your question I would minus the A and B. But unless the split is obvious its -125-75 not -125 for both.

There is no such thing as calling your dog split ( unless you're the judge). Split trees are the judges decision. Judges should simply ignore any call to put a dog down as split treed.

and if so, he can end up with 125 instead of 75 on the tree.__________________

Not trying to jump the thread here but I had this happen in a youth hunt.
4 dog cast all 4 dogs treed. When we go to the tree one dog was not there. The five was up on the tree so it was shined. It was an obvious den tree with several holes. It was asked what happens to the other dog. The judge said that it was not there and minused. The boy handling the dog said when he treed his dog he did not say it was treed on that exact tree with the other dogs. The judge then told the young man that he must declare his dog split or it is assumed that it with the other dogs. Once we moved away and the dogs quietened down some you could hear his dog to the right. the boy told the judge that his down was on down. The judge made him re-tree his dog and they went on to the tree. I want to say that the circled that tree.
Was this wrong? I have not done alot of competition hunting and I am trying to learn more.
