what do you think??
if all local would go back to just holding 5 events a year instead of 7 maybe we could get togeather and not scedual them on the same week end if possiable ,10 0r 12 dogs at each event is killing all clubs. there is about 10 clubs in a 60 mile radus of each other thats at least 70 events a year if we dont do something soon there will be some clubs that cant surrive any suggesting would be appricate

i didn't think UKC would allow clubs within 60 miles of each other...Or at least that was the case a few years ago when we tried starting a new club.

im talking about one club having one on friday nite and a club 20miles away holding one saturday nite, that way both are getting hurt because you can wait one nite and hunt out out of the club that is closest to you, if YOU wait one week then maybe you would hunt both places , money is pretty tight these days and a lot of people dont have the cash to hunt 2 nites in a row, I know i dont

Sounds good to me. We've been thinking of doing away with a couple anyhow. July and August. I've never heard of the 60 mile rule on new clubs. If that is the case. A bunch of em around here wouldn't be open today.

On the flip side though, some folks only have one or two clubs within driving distance, so cutting the number of hunts back just cuts out on hunts they can attend....
i understand tha,t im talking about here in indiana , like i said we have 10 clubs im guessing about 60 miles apart each having having 7 hunts back to back

I know a handful do it that way here in Mich. or so it seems. It seems to work out pretty good. Communication/support between clubs has to be there.
Roger,
You and I have talked about this a lot, and I've always stated that we need a "federation" in Northern Indiana. A group of clubs that can work together and support each other. Scheduling hunts so that they don't compete against each other, but meet the needs of the club members in each club. And to be honest, I'm not sure that what you think will happen is really what will happen.
If you are having 10 or 12 entries at each of your 7 hunts a year, that means that your club must survive on between 70 and 84 entry fees each year. Drop that number to 5 hunts a year, and if you don't get more entries...you have doomed your club to survive on 50 to 60 entry fees a year.
The REAL problem in my eyes is that those clubs in that 60 mile radius of you all have about 5 members each...that is about 50 people. Not every member of a club within 60 miles is going to attend 70 hunts a year...and there are a few folks that hold no loyalty or membership to ANY club...and they fill out the other entries. What does this all mean? It means that there are too many clubs having events where there are not enough members of the club to support the events! We keep waiting and hoping that the folks that are members of the other clubs, or are not club members at all will come to the club and enter in the events.
In my mind, it should be the other way around. If you have 10 or 12 entries and not one single paying member of the club is a participant...your club is doomed...regardless of how many events you have. You simply can not count on folks outside your club to keep your club alive financially. If you look at the very successful clubs nearby, you will find that the majority of the entries at their events are card carrying, dues paying members of that club!!!!!!

Over the course of a year, fewer events equal fewer dogs paying an entry. I dont see how this would help. Our local clubs are more interested in hosting other KC. events because they dont limit the events number.
