I would say the big thing is a lot patience. Don't get in a hurry for the pup to start. You can let it be a pup and still work with it on drags.

never started one in my life just expose it either it has it or dont.

Gezz being your in Catlet you should have lots of Coon if you have the land to Hunt !!

Should be easy to Start one without much if any Training .. Young Pups Just Start Daily Walks up and the Creeks .. Then one day catch a coon and Hide him along one of your walk Areas and just walk the Pup as Usual and let it Find the Coon, Tie the Pup Back and turn the Coon Loose for it ..

Once or Twice like this and the Pup will be Ready to Rock and Roll !!

Just put the little fellar in the timber. I start hunting pups when they are big enough to walk without help in the woods. A lot of people say it will burn a young dog out on hunting that young, but I have never had that problem so far.

Work with ur pup everyday. No matter wat it is, on the bench, in the timber, for a walk....just mess with it everyday. Get a coon hide an play with it everyday befor u feed ur pup, tease him but reward him. Rub feed on the hide an let pup eat it of hide. Start makn short drags with the hide an let ur pup find it, but always reward ur pup and use fresh scent. Show ur pup a cage coon wher it wil learn wat a coon is, but keep ur pup in a pen when u do it wher ur pup wil feel safe. No matter wat u do, just work an mess with ur pup everyday, dnt spoil it but let it kno ur on the same page and ull hav no problem, clint

Best way i have found (it works for me) is to let the pup run loose.
Till it starts ventureing further from home usually around 2-3 mths old.
Or just leave it loose @ nite , tied/ kenneled in the day.
Of course not everyone is fortunate in there surroundings to do this .
The pup(s) will learn to hunt on its/there own.
Obviously if u cant do this try someone elses methods.

I am with you Lee, just expose it. But expose it with the right stuff.

Your gonna need patience, a lot of PATIENCE. Try not to get frustrated and remember its still a puppy. And as others have posted put em in the woods as much as you can.
