Treed for DAYS!?
Anyone ever had a coon treed for days? I trapped one to train my pup and keep my old dog fresh, she got out the cage through the feed door (latch cme un-done w/o my knowledge). She ran up the first tree she got to and has been up there since Monday evening about 7 p.m. She's movin' around, but refuses to come down....its just really weird to me.

Sounds like she is out of her area, and doesn't really know which way to go when she does come down. It could be just young and stupid or has been shook out before, if that is case a dog barking might cause her to stay up. I have seen a few that were shook out that would climb if everything was quiet, but if they heard a dog open they would go to ground. It might be that she is hearing a dog and is staying in place, hunger should bring her down ..... might put some food out and see if it gets her interested in leaving her perch.

FOOD
Put some food out for her yesterday evening, checked this morning and she still up the tree, can of tuna never got touched. She is out of her element, shes a river coon and I'm 20 miles from the river. We are trying to "restock" our area with coons, some of the guys around here shoot out every coon in a tree when their dogs tree, even the kits, so our population locally has dwindled dramatically. When I first moved onto my property it was nothing to see 'em in the oaks right behind my house (I have 15 acres surrounded by farms, fields, hardwood bottoms, etc) now I'm lucky if I get a pic of one on my trail cams. Another buddy of mine lives close to the river and hunts a lot of the islands out there so we catch 'em and turn 'em loose at my house. This is the first one that has stayed in the tree this long though, most come down by the following morning, and shes not young, shes about a 20-25lb coon, which around here is a pretty big one. Thanks for the input though, I know shes gotta get hungry sometime and come down, it just amazes me that she's been up there this long! I have a pic of her in the cage on my kennel page on Facebook, and took some pictures of her in the tree yesterday with a camera and hope to have them posted on my site by the weekend.

Had one that turned up here. Stayed layed up in a tree for several days before it decided it would come down on go on about it's business. I shot him -- with a camera! There was nothing wrong with it. They don't get lost that easy! They come here looking for food. They don't worry about the dogs since they can't get to them and they know it.

nice
Nice pic! wish mine was that good, but shes up a pine thats surrounded by 3 other pines so i cant get a real good pic of her. When I hunt I forget my camera, I dont eat or sell coon so I only kill one or two and give them to people who do eat em. Lots of elderly people around here like em, so I get to hunt and they get some free food.

If I were a coon and thought the dogs were going to eat me if I came down, I'd stay up too. But, when the drive to eat overcomes the drive for protection, she'll be down. She'll need water before food. Try putting that out near the tree if there isn't any.
