My old male does the same thing spring and early summer. Best thing I found to help him was Visine Allergy eye drops from Wal-Mart. Not for pets just the regular kind like me and you use.

I have had same problem, vet gave me a cream to put in there eyes every few days. sometimes the straw in there box can do it. try to watch what you bed them with.

Give the dog a 24 hour Claritan tablet. I did this all last summer and it helps a lot. You can get the generic ones at Wal-Mart which are a lot cheaper.

I use Benadryl also on one of my dogs. Seems to help.

I hope you don't mind me jumping your thread, but, its along the same lines. The Black dogs have skin issues/allergies that seem to be worse with summer. Have you noticed the allergy meds helping with any skin issues?

Our male dog was the exact same way, a couple weeks ago. His eyes were matted almost shut with green slimy stuff, he couldn't bark very loudly, and everytime he ate, he would hack and gab. It kind of worried me and I took him to the vet. Vet said he had no fever, no worms, lungs and heart sound perfect. But he didn't like the looks of his eyes. He said he had allergies and a sinus infection. He gave him amoxicillin and said use a benadryl everyday. He is all cleared up. My husband gives him honey for his throat sometime to clear it up a bit, helps his bark. I've not tried clariton but I just might.

As for the rash, one of our dogs has that, but he is just young (7months) I wasnt sure what to give him either. I know a friend of ours his dog had it and they gave him pills but he can't remember what is was for.
