pups neck swolen. i need help.

I took my 6 month old pup out they other night and nothing out of the ordinary happend, she didnt get into any coon or anything but the next day i noticed a spot behind her left ear kinda on the top side of her neck, its about 2"x2" round, really wet/seeping looking, it's kinda nasty looking. now today i go out there and its swollen clear down into her neck. the left side of her neck where all there skin is...its just full of poison, she shakes her head like it hurts her ear alittle to. she acts fine but looks terrible. she hasnt ate much last few days but thats common for my dogs in this heat. she does devour treats though. is there something i can do, besides take her for another high dollar vet bill? i sprayed some blu kote on it. still seeping pretty good. i dont know if she got bit by something or maybe a thorn...not sure.

DMSO might draw it out. Keep her collar loose. Hot compresses might help.

I called vet today and she said that it sounds like she had either a hot spot or some type of irratation and scratched it and caused a secondary infection, she seems to have an ear infection also because she's shaking her head alot and tryin to itch it. i did the peroxide today and i have 3 days worth of amoxicillin 500mg. im gonna try to keep peroxide on it and give her those anitbiotics for a few days and see how it does, she still acts ok and either the swelling has went down alittle or just spread out after i took her collar off, im not sure. not sure if this will burst because its already draining some nasty sticky stuff. will the amoxicillan help the ear infection? thanks for the replys

DON'T KEEP PEROXIDING IT!!! Peroxide will start to kill the tissue if used too much. Get Nolvasan or Chlorhexadine at like TSC. That is what the Vets use to clean wounds and it won't damage tissue.

Dimethyl Sulfoxide- extraction solvent, horse linament, handle with care and don't use but just a little. Apply small amount with cotton ball, Q-tip, paper towel, rag,.........I've used on myself for certain ailments, it just burns a little. Found at the feed and supply stores.

Hot compresses is a hot wet rag applied to the affected area. Wet a bathcloth and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds or so.

Penicillan can be found at Tractor Supply in the injectible form in the livestock section.

DMSO

Just a bit of a warning when using DMSO! I have lots of exp. with it and horses, GREAT stuff. DMSO is a carrying agent, if you want a medicine to go inside thru the skin you place the meds with the Dmso on the skin... the PROBLEM with this is that if you touch any TOXIN in will also be carried in so just be cautious! We always handled it with rubber gloves(and always ended up splashing it somewhere... and if you do you will know it! You get garlic breath as soon as it touches your skin! )
As for your dog, good luck with the healing process! Hope it heals up quick and your dog is fine SOON!

Good luck, HappyHunting Heather

Go to TSC and get this stuff for horses it is a in a white can and it is a drawing salve used on horses it looks like tar and stinks but rub that on the place and you may have to use it a couple of days but it will draw out what ever in there. The name is Ichthamol 20% drawing salve.
