Breeding?
How close is to close? I have a once in a lifetime female an her son is the same way , I've heard of people doin father daughter crosses but I'm far from being a breeder an was just wanton some input on this ? Thanks
Ive heard that you shouldnt look at how close two dogs are bred, unless they are already bred close but how good each individual dog is. I was planning on doing a father X daughter cross down the road if I can find a female as good as my male. He isnt tightly bred anything so Im sure there wouldnt be anything wrong. Ive heard dont do a mother X son cross but I dont think it really matters to be honest. Wouldnt be bad to make the cross if they are still young just to see what happens and how the pups turn out? I wouldnt breed the pups back to one of them though as that would probably be too tight but I know a lot of linebreeding is done to keep a certain line pure.

I read a book once that addressed line breeding. Personally I don't know that much about the author but he claimed a person shouldn't breed any closer than 75/25 same blood. And that would be not any closer than female to son or sire to daughter. I do know a guy that had crossed litter mates, which of course is a 100 percent same blood cross. I don't know how they turned out but that author stated in his book that any closer than 75/25 can result in some culling????
They same line breeding brings can amplify the good traits but also the bad, so look closely at the prospective dog's traits to make sure you like them all..........

I've seen first hand that Mother/Daughter and Father/Daughter crosses can and do work. I'd make sure they are for sure what your wanting. Cause that's what your gonna get. I prefer cousins, or aunt/uncle to niece/nefew crosses. I have one out of a half brother/sister, and have really considered doing a full brother/sister cross.

Yea I have another option to, my females half uncle but I've tried to breed them twice an he hasn't been able to get the job done
I also tryin to preserve a certain bloodline
how would the ukc papers look would UKC register the litter a father - daughter cross ??? my buddy Matt bought a pup from me that was born 6-01-10 and by the time the pup was 5 month he had shot 23 coons to the pup and treed one bear without any other dogs help.. she treed her first coon in the wild at 31/2 months old ..he posted this awhile back and a bunch of people trashed him so bad he doesn't get on anymore the father to this pup treed his first coon at 5 months old and he's my lead bear dog i would like to see how those pups would turn out but i thought it was to close to do the cross Tim

Finally got the female bred to her half uncle today, step outta the way an ten mins checked on um an they were hung up.
UKC will register any litter as long as both parents are UKC reg. They used to put "INBRED" on the papers... But I've seen some liebreed dogs that were more inbred than some pups out of full brother/sister litters.
I am also trying to preserve a certain line. I just made a cross like this.
------- Waylon
--- Old Rip
------ Mindy
Hunter (sire)
------ Driver
--- Aspen
------ Penny
------ Hardwood Henry
--- River
------ Medley's Dixie
Kelly (mother)
------ Waylon
--- Dottie
------ Mindy
I plan on taking a female that turns out in a few years back to the Dam's brother.
------ Hardwood Henry
--- River
------ Medley's Dixie
Little Rip
------ Waylon
--- Dottie
------ Mindy
That'd be 3x the Waylon/Mindy cross. Which were two of the best dogs, and those pups off that cross were just as good, and good producers.
