Lonnie Mears?

Does anyone know if Mr. Mears is still raising walker dogs and if so how can he be reached?

Yes he is. I don't have his phone number handy as I write this but I bet you can call Springfield, MO info and get it. I'll try to put his contact info up later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

The name sure rings a bell with this old archive. What dogs did he make famous or vice versa. I think I had one off his but I'm getting senile.

I can relate to the senile part.

Mear's Finley River Dan was the first one. In my opinion the best reproducing son of Finley River Chief. Lonnie placed 6th I believe with Dan in the 1970 World Hunt, the same year Finisher won it.

Lonnie has kept and been line breeding back to his original dog, old Dan since that time. He placed in the top 20 of the World Hunt 3 years in a row in the 90's with his Lonnie dog.

He had Dan III. Sold Finley River Sonny, Finley River Banjo's daddy. He offered Finley River Jeff and Tom at stud along with some others.

Lonnie Mears has did more then his part to improve the walker breed and he did it by staying with his original hound.

Yep, I remember clearly now. I think it was the first PK_ , I ever had . He was only two and a half but he was a coondog in my book. He never was entered in a hunt. I am one of those guys people laugh about having a country coondog tied out behind the barn that is better than yours. (not me saying it, somebody else doing the bragging). I had turned him out in the yard to trot around a bit before I loaded him while I went to the bathroom. Happened to be a kid walked in front of the house and the dog followed the kid only a few hundred yards to a busy highway and he got run over. One way to look at it is he never would have been famous with anybody but me and a few buddies any way.

Amen. Can't go wrong linebreeding on Old Dan. Had nothing but coon dogs out of him and his offspring since 1978. Thanks Lonnie for your dedication to the Walker breed.

if i remember right he was a bench show judge,,his name and number should be listed under the bench judges..
