If by new collar you are talking about the DC-30 then yes it does get much better range than with the DC-20.

I have run both at the same time and there is no difference were I hunt. The collar did not change just the housing. It looks better on the dog but functions no better.

They say 7 miles but that’s line of site, so you cant even have so much as a blade of grass between you and the transmitter. Saturday night after the hunt was over I pulled mine out and turned it on. It picked my gyp up at 2.2 miles from where we were standing. That is as far as it has ever worked. No wonder I couldn’t here her to tree her. LOL

The farthest I have gotten signal with the regular antenna is 1.25 miles..

The farthest I got signal with the long antenna is 1.89 miles. No consistency, I must have a bad unit, it works good enuff, saves me alot of time and grief. But I lose signal alot and don't get much distance at all. The other night we left a dog in the woods to drive around the section, I lost signal at .6 miles, and never got it back again until .5 miles. We were never more than .75 miles from the dog.

With just the handheld I have never gotten signal over a mile here in the hills but with the truck mount I have tracked the DC-30's at 4.5 to 5 miles.

I could not disagree more, but that is based on my experience. I had the DC20 and had no problems, range maybe was not as much as I would have liked, but I still had no real complaints. I now have the dc30, I only replaced it because I lost the other collar one night after a hunt, (it was off). My range is better. I get excellent reception even in the thickest cover. Best reception without my roof top antenna 1.9 miles. I haven't had to use the roof top yet.
I think that the units are sort of hit and miss, either that or I have had the two best collars that Garmin has made.

My DC-30's are also much better than the DC-20 I had.

Range wise, my dc30 is better. I got a little over a mile with the dc20's. The farthest I have gotten with the dc30 is 1.9 miles. I haven't tested it further than that though. I was going 60 mph in the other direction with a dog in the other truck.

My dog Jester hasn't gone more than about 800 yards yet on a track, and I never lose him. I'll test it again tonight if I think of it and see where I am getting.
